Hi everyone,
I was curious what you take during the ride portion for a half ironman? I realize nutrition is totally subjective and varies from person to person but just wanted to get a sense.
I'm doing my first 70.3 in a couple of weeks so I've been experimenting with different things on my long rides. I think I've settled on the following plan for the ride:
3 Bottles: 2 at start (1 Gatorade, 1 water), 3rd bottle swap at 58k mark (another Gatorade)
1 Bar (10-15k mark)
Gel every 20-30 minutes (4-5 total)
I'm considering dropping the bar altogether and going all gels. It seems most athletes avoid solid foods. Psychologically I feel better with the bar, even if it's slower to peel and eat than a gel - the solid food feels like it will give me more lasting power on the run, but again - that's probably just in my head.
Would love to hear what you guys take during the bike and appreciate any advice you can share based on what I've outlined above.
Thanks!
Alex
