Are there numbers out there on how many people qualify each year? I'd be interested to know, and then compare to number of people racing, break down per age group also.

Very small percent. A minimum of 22 people qualify at each race (1 per age group from U18 to 65-69). Most races have more that qualify. I guess a few could have less if no one shows up in a certain age group.
53 people raced from CT so that's basically 2 races.
Last year CT had 14 races and there were obviously some overlap in the participants but some qualifications went 12 deep (using the 10% rule).
At Quassy alone 38 people qualified in the 45-49 group (special qualifier). 8 total M45-49 went to nationals.
My house had 2 people qualify and zero race.
So - A VERY small percent show up if CT is somewhat representative of the other states.
