Hey guys, all the best to the start of a new week ahead! Had a few questions on my mind over the weekend for those who still own the Giant Trinity Advanced Pro 2 triathlon bike.
1) Is there anyway to lower the stem height so that the bike might look more like the Time Trial variant?
2) Would the new 2018 Aero Vault stem hydration kit fit the 2016 frame?
3) What are great customisations/modifications that y'all have done to the 2016 Giant Trinity Advanced Pro 2 triathlon bike?
I have the 2016 Trinity Advanced Pro and would love to lower my stem/bar height----and swap out the aerobar for more versatility and angle adjustability----but you can't, it's proprietary. The fork and stem is integrated. See Page 7 of the manual for the exploded view:
https://www.manualslib.com/...o.html?page=7#manual Now, notice the fork and stem on the plain jane Trinity Advanced.
https://www.giant-bicycles.com/...rinity-advanced-2016 The Advanced uses a non-integrated stem design, which you can use any aerobar (and stem) with, have the ability to change armrest angle, swap out headset spacers for easy height adjustments, etc. This is a great example of keep-it-simple...stupid, isn't it? :)
So, is it worth it to have the aero advantages of the Advanced Pro instead of the versatility of the Advanced? The answer is, maybe. It really depends upon whether you're able to get into an effective position for you as an individual, one which is comfortable, allows you to put power down, is aero, and sustainable. I've tweaked the heck out of my Advanced Pro, reconfig'd the cockpit five times since Feb this year, tried different combos of spacers, changed cup positions, swapped out elbow pads, bought angled spacers for under the cups, swapped extensions three times, tried different extension rotation/hand angles, and now have it where I want it, so no need to change anything (unless I endeavor to flip the basebar upside down so the the bullhorn handles have drop, but I'm avoiding that, so I don't have to re-cable everything, again, haha).
Here's a pic before I swapped to a different set of extensions (to bring my hands up higher than the Zipp Evo 110's in this photo):
Now, I'm finally done, comfortable, not thinking about the bike fit anymore. But...but....I would still really enjoy the versatility of using a regular stem and any aerobar I like. I'm going through that exercise with a track bike for pursuit, and it's much easier than working with proprietary designs. Live and learn. Do I love my Adv Pro? Yes, it's dialed now. Would fitting be easier with the plain Advanced? You bet.
