Plants in it?

If not simple things like bleach or water pool chemicals do the trick nicely.

I'm always amazed how quickly algae will colonize any little bit of water on the planet. Those freaking spores and algae bits are everywhere.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

Don't kill algae. It is removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Pretty sure the planet will survive with one water feature that is algae free.

It was just one guy using a clothes dryer instead of drying on a line, it was just one guy driving a big SUV instead of bike commuting, it was just one guy polluting the lake with an gasoline motor instead of rowing, and it was just one guy shooting a carrier pidgeon. It was just one guy deciding they needed a water feature with and electric pump, and then another deciding he needed air conditioning, and then another guy deciding to dam the Colorado river destroying millions of acres of natural habitat.

The massive climate catastrophe we have been about to experience for the last 40 years began with just one guy.

So everyone should kill their pets. Sounds like a plan.

Subjugation of animals is wrong and cruel. Killing is more humane than keeping pets, but at least neuter all pets and end this barbaric practice.

No more human offspring either. Little fuckers can’t stop producing CO2.

Also subjugation of human children is wrong and cruel.

Depending on how bad the algae is, I’d drain the water, clean it off with bleach/water solution, then refill and add bleach (aka chlorine) on a weekly basis. Amount of bleach needed will depend on gallons of water, water temp and how much sun it gets. I’d assume 1/4-1/2 cup should work unless you have a few hundred gallons.
