Any advice? Any joiners? Any doubters?

So... day 50, and there’s been plenty of advice; a resolute core of joiners (& encouragers) has been established; and as for doubters, too few to mention. Me? I’m expectantly hopeful of a grand finale... ;)

I had planned more of a peter-out kind of thing for today, but your idea of grand finale is exciting and fun! A big event! A big effort! There will have to be some substitutions, of course. I envision a gyro and big 32 ounce Coke. Maybe I can borrow my daughter's new fox Halloween costume. I'm just brainstorming here.

Day 50

A quick chilly ride outside since my trainer broke. I'm sending emails to Italy trying to get it sorted out. Thanks CJ for letting me join you in your challenge. I only missed one day and averaged over 200 miles on the bike for the last four weeks. It was a good way to get ready for the winter.

Cool. FYI and to provide context to your 50 days of handcrafted awesomeness, in the same 50 days I have managed 12 swims (19000m), 19 rides (630km) & 21 runs (177km).

make a difference. today.

Well I had secretly planned my own grand final, all of course depending on how I was feeling. So started slow on my 5k at 9;14 pace, then a couple minutes in 8;34, then a few more and it was 7;54 til the sprint finish in 7;30(well not really sprinting)
My HR steady rose from 105 to 136 at the end for a 25;04 5k time, best of the challenge I think.

Then onto my MTB road course for a 34;49, another pr for the challenge, 115 to 130 HR, which seemed high for the time.

Then a complete dud in the pool, managed an 11;40 for the 800SCY swim, but a total PR non the less;

1;11.33 for my sprint tri course record, so good way to end it all.

Thanks to CJ and everyone who kept this thing alive, even when it didnt suit life's curve balls. Except for 5 days during a week of travel and personal stuff, I only missed two other days of doing something. 41 days of swimming, 21 days of cycling, and 19 of running. So with some extra credit rides and runs, looks like I did about 21 actual sprint triathlons, the first one in 1;26.32 course adjusted, to a final of 1;11.33. So a nice descend, and I lost 3.4lbs of actual fat, so I got that going for me too!!!

On the beer front, not so well, probably only had about 12 to 15, but they were double/triple IPA's at about 10%, so maybe I can double/triple that number to equal Budweisers...(-;

No grand finale after all. No gyro and Coke in a fox costume. Biked 47 min. Ran 29. But I did see a coyote while I was running this afternoon (weird!), so that was good.

I did 44 s/b/r or equivalent events. My favorite days were the Big Swim days. Also, I loved my long run days.

I had MANY days when I didn't want to do this challenge. I just thought of you poor suckers who I roped into doing this, and I felt guilty. Guilt and the thought of you guys got me out the door!

Thank you to Damn lucky, Eric and Monty! You guys are the BEST! Also, thank you to Andrew in South Africa for many good words of encouragement!

44 s/b/r! That's awesome. It's a lot more than a certain fitness model managed to do. Is it time for you to start an Instagram account? ;)

I have to say it's a very satisfying feeling after it's all said and done. I'll keep working out for October but I won't put any pressure on myself. Once November hits I plan on starting another challenge for myself. It'll be 100 days of activity, just to keep me moving through the holidays. It can be anything, hikes, walks, bikes, swims or whatever. Just so I get to spring feeling ready to go.

One cool aspect to the challenge Monty and I did was how short each activity was. Mentally, it's not asking too much to go swim for 15 min, or bike just 12.5, or run just 30 min. There's no good excuse for not doing it.

But it all adds up! My weekly hourly totals looked like:

Partial Week 1: 7hr 31 min
Week 2: 9 hrs
Week 3: 9hr 23 min
Week 4: 14 hrs
Week 5: 8hr 45 min
Week 6: 12 hrs
Week 7: 6 hr 11 min
Partial Week 8: 5 hrs

I'd like to know Eric's and Damn lucky's weekly hourly totals. I bet they are pretty high.

It didn't seem to matter that I had ZERO hours per week for most of June and July. I didn't get sick or hurt during this challenge. I also lost the stubborn last 10 lbs that I've had for 10 years. I'm svelte now!

I've decided that swimming for only 15 min is super lame. Swimming is awesome and warrants more time. Also, I'm glad to be done riding on roads. Riding in SoCal is just bad, despite what people say. There are just no good, open stretches without cars near me.

I plan to do the 100/100 running challenge in November. I like the rankings.

Day 50, Wed, 10.10.2018: Swam 4200 scm and ran 4.3 miles. Weekly totals are:

Partial Week 1: 18,000 scm and 14 mi, T hrs = 8:54.
Week 2: 27,000 scm and 21 mi, T = 13:24.
Week 3: 15,300 scm and 16 mi, T = 8:15.
Week 4: 27,000 scm and 21 mi, T = 13:12.
Week 5: 25,200 scm and 22 mi, T = 12:54.
Week 6: 25,200 scm and 18 mi, T = 12:03.
Week 7: 27,000 scm and 25 mi, T = 14:00.
Partial Week 8: 12,300 scm and 13 mi, T = 6:35.

As 50 day averages: 3540 scm/day, 3.0 mi/day, and 1:47/day. I took 2 days off from the swim and 3 from running but made up the run miles in the last 10 days. This last 10 days finally got me back to feeling comfortable with running 4 miles again; used to run 4 to 6 routinely but got out of the habit last 2 yrs due to swimming more, but I can def swim and run for 2 hrs or more every day if I set my mind to it. Maybe, just maybe, I'll add the bike back into the mix. Still have an old bike set up on a trainer in my kitchen, so it is there whenever I want to jump on it. :)

DL - Very impressive really, you averaged about 2:15/day on the bike over the 50 days, or almost 16 hrs/wk. Makes my butt hurt just thinking about it. :)

Great going everyone. You've accomplished something special in these 50 days. Thanks for the journey, and for the part you each played in making the whole endeavour greater than the sum of it's parts.

Now, if only there was a Big Show coming up to fill the void left by the 50/50... oh wait, there is :)

make a difference. today.

Wow! I'm so impressed with your swimming and running. It's really fun to see what people do; it's good to be exposed to good ideas, like swimming 4,000 a day. Of course that's a good idea! Duh!!

Thank you for joining. It's been great, and I'm glad it's over. I suspect you will keep on swimming and running. Take care!

Thanks CJ!!! This challenge got me back to running every day which I will continue. My new goal is to get up to 35,000 and 35 per week. :)

I have one more week, two practices, and then the mtb season is over.
I'm now concentrating on physical therapy for my shoulder. I have surgery scheduled for Nov 26 if the pt doesn't help.
