Probably spun the wheel just prior to the camera shot to make sure the brakes aren't rubbing. I do that before I jump on my bike every time.

spun the wheel to get the chain back on.. I know the clip is making the rounds but it's not the whole picture. Faux news

not sure that explanation works given that the rear wheel was on the ground, then picked up as the bike was turned around.

You can't see that it was fully on the ground. If it was a mere 1/8" off the ground and he spun it it wouldn't stop.

Believe what you want though.

I dont do the facebooks but from another site.. you can see the rear kicking up dust and moving the dried grass.. = not fully on the ground.

Can you post a link? Forget the wheel spinning as he's carrying the bike back onto the road. It stops spinning when he puts the bike down, but as he gets himself oriented to remount, it kinda looks like it's breaking free and spinning faster than just from being rolled along the road.

I just rewatched the coverage of stage8 at that point... the heli pans pretty far back, but only one white jersey bent over looking at the rear of a white bike (assume the trek in question) Alpercin guys are near which matches the non-heli shot clip.

I still think he gave that crank a whirl to get the chain back going..the crank kinda comes in contact with his leg thus slowing the crankarm down, but the wheel is spinning pretty good.

nothing to see here

Crash in question: https://streamable.com/gks5a

Wheel off the ground after Skujins spun the cranks to reset his chain.

Yes - it has a motor...in the form of a human pedaling it!

Zero chance that bike has a motor. Trek has nothing to gain by putting a motor in Toms’ bike and everything to lose. If it was JD or Bauke then we may have more of a conspiracy conversation.

I don't believe there is a motor unless the highlights have EDM over it.

You can clearly see him spin the crank with his hand.

At first glance from Belgian TV I was pretty convinced that you were correct on this call.
Not a motor...but the electromagnetic wheel technology...which FYI does absolutely exist.
However, after further investigation...it was a physically induced turning of the wheel which caused the appearance.

Good Work!

Dang. From now on I'll have to remember that racing a bike is actually more like being at a rave once you put it to the right soundtrack.
