Cadence training
Question: am I truly working a different system (cardiac>skeletal muscle) when training at a higher cadence? I did a little experiment (kept HR same as this lines up best with effort level for me) and there's definitely a difference in my power output:

140 BPM @ 110 RPM x 5 min = 240W
140 BPM @ 95 RPM = 280W

Am I really training my cardiac system more when riding at a higher cadence (which is less fit apparently) or is it just mechanical inefficiency at the higher RPM making the difference?

Try it from a different angle ...

Choose your Power Target or Range for a particular race distances (OD / 70.3 / IM) ... then try that race power at
75rpms
85rpms
95rpms
.... see what your HR is at those different wattages ... you may likely find each race wattage has a slightly different cadence that you prefer ... you will also see different heart rates.

BUT ... to answer your question, higher cadences will typically produce higher HR's even if you are mechanically good at each cadence.
