Merkel's troubles
Merkel is facing a threat to her collation government over handling of migrants. "We can manage" has been her response on how Germany can deal with the influx of migrants.

I could get dicey for her over the next few days.

Quote:
Merkel and Seehofer have been increasingly at loggerheads over the refugee issue. Political observers say Merkel may rue the day she gave the nod to Seehofer’s appointment as interior minister.
Seehofer’s decision to back out of attending an integration summit in Berlin on Wednesday only increased the tension. He went instead to meet Kurz, after which the two announced a three-way “axis of the willing” between Austria, Germany and Italy to fight illegal immigration.
The move was seen as a deliberate shunning of Merkel and an outright rejection of her ideas on migration policy. According to polls, 65% of Germans reject Merkel’s stance on migration and would like to see tighter controls at Germany’s borders.

This is the factor that could blow up her coalition, the whole control-the-entry-of-migrants thing. The recent rape and murder of that 14-year-old German girl by an Iraqi migrant whose petition for asylum had been rejected (he was awaiting deportation while his case was appealed) is one of the acute events driving all this right now.

Much of the country (and almost all of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria, from where Seehofer sprung) is up in arms about the killing by the migrant, one Ali Bashar -- who fled the country, along with his parents and siblings, all under false names. Fortunately, Iraq quickly arrested Bashar up in the north and then extradited him back to Germany just as quickly, where he'll now stand before the bar of justice.

"Politics is just show business for ugly people."

Merkel's refugee policies have been idiotic. The Germans should have got rid of her a long time ago IMHO.

You'd think the Germans, the Austrians, and the Italians would want to think carefully about starting a group with "axis" in the title. People might get the wrong idea.
