Looking for any advice on buying a used disc wheel. I have a good price on a older zipp 900 , 2006 I believe. What kind of things should I look for before buying, or should I just be passing all together?

Spin the wheel to make sure it’s true?

Buy my gently used Chinese carbon clincher disc instead. Less than 2 years old!

Yep.....advice would include how much this older 900 disc is selling for.

Hold the wheel by the skewer. One hand on each side, and spin the wheel. If you feel grinding, the wheel bearings could be shot. It should feel smooth.

How cheap is cheap? Look for cracks in the carbon, especially along the edge.
This wheel is designed for a narrow tire, so you should stick to 23mm or less. This kinda kills the appeal given that everyone is going wider. Starting in about 2009 HED started making their C2 disc wheels. Those are nice, durable and pretty reasonably priced.

I glued a 23 mm Vittoria Corsa on my Zipp disc of same era and it fits perfectly. Wouldn't go wider tough.
Very fast wheel. Paid 450$ for a 2009 wheel and clamped it on my P5. Not really «free speed», but « quite cheap speed» !
