Possible to replace hub on Hed C2 disc wheel?

I understand that Hed disc wheels use spokes rather than structural carbon, so I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the hub entirely.

Specifically, could a Hed Jet C2 Disc with a Powertap Pro+ have that hub replaced by a Powertap SL+?

(The reason why I would want to do this is that the Pro+ is not 11sp compatible, and the SL+ is).

What year is your hub ?

"15mm 11 speed freehub body is compatible with:
  • 2009 or later models of Elite+ and Pro+ hubs
  • 2009 or later models of SL+ or SLC hubs+"

I have the Jet Disc with the pro+ powertap hub, and the freehub body falls off super easy, guy I bought it off I am 95% sure was running it 11sp

No. For starters you would have to remove the carbon. Hed do not recommend swapping the freehub over from 10 to 11 speed because you have to re-dish the wheel and it changed the stress on the flat carbon sheeting. The only way you could change to an 11 speed is potentially take the freehub off and machine it as far as you can to fit the extra width of 11 speed cassette or just get an Edco cassette.

This is true for the HED hubs, but with the powertap hub replacement from 10 speed to 11 speed, re-dishing the wheel is not required.

Just pop out the old freehub, put in the new freehub.

"
  • Use the PowerTap 11 speed alloy freehub body to replace current ten speed version allowing the wheel to be Shimano

11 speed compatible. No re-dishing of the wheel is required."

Like I said above, I am 95% sure the guy I bought my JET Disc from with pro+ power meter was running it 11 speed, but sold it to me with the 10 speed freehub on it ( he has like 3 powertap hubs, so kept the 11 for himself on his Dimond )

Good news is that a $40 freehub replacement is WAAAAAY cheaper than trying to convert a powertap hub anyways.

Ah good news it is the same as changing DT Swiss from 10 to 11 just change the freehub no re-dishing...

Yes, the problem is that the powertap freehub replacement only works for the freehubs that pop off. There is an earlier version of the Pro+ that comes off using a hex key and cone wrench. That freehub cannot be upgraded to an 11sp Shimano freehub. And that's the one that's on the disc wheel.

Ah so pre 2009 then, mine is a pro+ that pops off.

I would email powertap and see if they have a conversion hub forvthe older ones at all.

Doubtful but worth a shot, otherwise I’d machine it or use the edco cassette.

Had serious issues with my free hub going into IMTX last year and the guys at Bike Land in the woodlands did an amazing job at fixing it for me!

Powertap does not sell a 11spd freehub for the 12mm axle models, but Novatec (their hub shell manufacturer) does. It's the Novatec Type A freehub. You can find them on eBay easily enough. Works perfectly.

Another option if you don't mind a little extra $$ is to call Saris and see what they want to rebuild the hub with new G3 inners (which now work with Bluetooth), new bearings, axle, 11-speed freehub, etc. When I had it done on my old SL+ hub, it was $250.

Ah thanks, I didn't know about the Novatec 11sp freehub.

Also found another solution. An outfit in Montreal called Lasco Concept will grind down an 11sp cassette 1.85mm so that it fits on a 10sp freehub.
