I may be huge idiot

I realized I’m using a 0.75 -1.0 chain checker, not sure where my 0.5-0.75 is.

Chain was not stretched. Still confused.

Will revert back in a few days

If the chain has been stretched for some time, you may have stuffed the chainrings as well

Things to looks at:
Check inner ring is good
Check chain really is good
Front mech cage bent
Front mech alignment
Front mech gap to rings
Inner limit screw.

You should add to this - check to see if your chain-ring bolts are still there. Somehow 2 had fallen out and only when I pedaled hard on small ring did they separate enough / drop the chain

Unreal

Glad you found it! That’s not as uncommon as you might think, but I’m the old days you could hear it.

Arguably covered by ‘inner ring good’ and ‘inner limit screw’ ;)
