In my earlier post, I said that I thought I would give the Shimano Dura Ace power meter a look. Well, now I've looked. And, like Stages, the Dura Ace power meter also has a pod on the inside of the left crank arm. It likely would interfere with direct mount, under the BB, brake calipers, too.

I have a few Power2max with Rotor crank arms that I would recommend. Rotor make from I believe 180mm to 150mm crank arms in 5mm lengths. I bought a few and worked out best crank length. Personally I don't like the feeling of riding with carbon cranks I'm guessing due to flex so only buy aluminium cranks too.Thaks, I'll check out the reviews. The P5 already comes with Rotor 3D cranks so Im assuming it should be an easy bolt on?

I went from SPD-SL's to Garmin Vectors (1's and now 3's) and honestly pedal/cleat function and feel was a non-issue. I'm sure if you did an A/B you could spot differences in feel between the two, but it's just not that big a deal a to be a factor in my decision-making. As far as the reliability issues with the Vectors, a lot of those are old gripes. Take, for example, SamuelMedway's complaint about having to backpedal 5 times and calibrate before each ride... that issue was corrected a few months after the original Vector 1's were introduced several years ago. Hasn't been an issue in ages, but old now-meritless complaints like that continue to crop up. My Vector 1's worked flawlessly for years before a pod died and Garmin CS took care of me. My Vector 3's have also been flawless so far. Not necessarily trying to talk you into going with pedals if you have your heart set against them, but if you base your decision-making on complaints you read online, you'll get a very skewed perspective on products. Thanks, but many reviews and forum posts have people complaining about them, particularly the battery compartment issues. I just don't have the time nor desire to deal with something that has been released with a known problem that Garmin are scrambling to fix.
I did try googling for example Assiamo and P1 problems and hardly got a hit in compaisson

I've tried many different powermeters, and for crank-based I would recommend Quarq or Pioneer. I had a very bad experience with Stages.

Any thoughts or opinions on the Pioneer Power Meter? Pros vs Cons? Any user experience? My BF and I both have been happy with Pioneer. I got mine to replace a Stages that was nothing but problematic, and after nearly three years of the Stages constantly being in the shop my LBS swapped out the Stages for a Pioneer at no charge to me (because neither the original Stages, nor either of the two replacement units, functioned properly for more then a few months at a time). I've had the Pioneer for about 8 months with absolutely no problems. It works as it's supposed to - no fuss, no hassle. The only drawback I've found is that firmware updates don't seem to be as easy to perform on Pioneer as with other units - so much so that my LBS told me not to bother trying to do it on my one, but rather to wait until the bike is in for service and then have them do it.

It's a simple bolt on, not necessarily easy lol. There is a nut that holds the spider and crank together which Rotor puts some kind of threadlock on that was a pain to get off. A heat gun helped a lot.

Iron Dukie, have you ever felt the need to do a firmware update?
I only ask because I've never even tried to with my Pioneers but I've never had any sort of difficulty that would make we want to. Come to think of it, I have to admit I wasn't even aware I could. Maybe I should...?
All I know is that the one time I tried to update my PowerTap firmware, I managed to brick it and had to get a new cap.

I haven’t yet but will probably have the shop check for an update the next time I bring in the bike. Haven’t noticed a need though.

Actually I just went to the Pioneer website and searched to try to find a firmware update. There does not appear to even be one for any of their power meters available yet...

$260 single, $400 duel, with capability to upgrade later from single to duel at $220. Or a pair for $700.
Not to mention they come with a 12 month warranty that includes all replacements (even crash) Here's Ray's review........
