Dan, your favorite HS runner Jakob 17y is back. He crushed all the pros at Payton Jordan 1500m. Now with proper video

It is spring. And nothing is more important than HS running ;-)
At Stanford yesterday, Jakob Ingebrigtsen 17y (born September 2000) won the 1500m. In the process he beat Paul Chelimo, Eric Jenkins, Colby Alexander, Craig Engels and Matthew Centrowitz.
The time was 3.39. 55 last lap.
Not bad for HS runner.
Results with splits here (including a video).

I'm so excited for the future. Jakob is such a Talent. He might find his strongest discipline in the 5000 or 10000.

His next race will also be here in the USA.
It will be the mile at Prefontaine Classic. Not sure if he will be in the A or B race.

Here you have the race from yesterday https://www.pscp.tv/w/1DXxyXpNYqeJM

There seems to be some unbelievable performances coming out of Norway at the moment. What do you credit the sudden endurance sport domination to?

17 year old George Manangoi (Born November 2000) of Kenya ran a 3:35.53 at a meet today closing with a 55.5. He’s both younger and faster than Jakob. Uh oh Halvard

Direct link to the free race video. (just a cellphone video from the homestretch so not great). Strong move by Jakob in the last 200-300m. Not sure why the racers left such a big gap between them and the two rabbits. If I was sitting in the front of the race pack I’d rather tuck in right behind the rabbits and get the draft.

I think Halvard attributes it to cross country skiing, moral character and plenty of lutefisk.

Not sure what others think.

Manangoi also ran a great race but a few things should be noted. Firstly Manangoi didn't win his race, he lost by half a second whereas Jakob won by over a second albeight in a slower race. There is no doubt in my mind that Jakob would have hung on to that pace if he were running in Doha instead and I would 100% bet on Jakob in a head to head. Between the age doping and the regular doping, Kenyan running has become very tainted and most of these runners that surface have on amazing season and then never come close.
Jakob has shown longevity and great talent, and until Manangoi does the same, his times won't excite me as much.

It's well known that age is just a theory in Kenya. This dude is likely 20.

FWIW, ManangoI actually looks his age unlike other young Kenyan stars in the past where birth year has been under question. As for doping, Kenyans have been under a lot of scrutiny especially given the recent bust of Kiprop. But it’s not like their has been any country that’s been completely free of cheating. Unfortunately there is always a possibility that any given runner is on something.

As a T&F fan I’d love to see these two young guns battle it out over the next 10-12 years. As much fun as it has been to watch Rushida and Mo dominate over the past decade, I think distance/middle distance could really use a good back and forth rivalry.

Yeah he looks like a teenager, def not a 25 yo, more likely he’s 17-20.
Regarding the doping, I think Kiprop proves that the testing is worthless in Kenya, not only did they get 24h warning but also bribes. I think Kenyan athletics will have a bad year with a lot of subpar results due to increased testing.
