Not at all. You were very helpful when I was starting the run training and had no idea what I was doing, even though I was in my late 30s. Sadly after peaking at age 41 it has been downhill for the running ever since. lol

I wasn't too far off of that. I 'peaked' my running at age 47 w a 5:23 mile (with a year of intervals) after a PB 3:15:xx marathon at age 45.
Multiple SF's pushed me to tri's.

I was registered for the Olympic but had appendicitis recently and never got back into training, so I deferred. Sounds like I may have made the right call based on everyone saying it will be packed. Anyone know if it will be the same thing next year?

Uhhh I heard the course was hilly, but this sounds pretty atrocious. Am I wrong? Lol.

just insert challenging in place of atrocious and you're on. its tough 'round these parts, but
not that bad, not atrocious. in my opinion anyway.

I’m in for the half for the 2nd time. It’s a hometown race for me too. I’m interested to see how this Olympic and half in same day works.

It's the hilliest half I've ever done, by far. For point of reference, the next hilliest one I've done is Timberman but there is no comparison: This one much, much hillier.

[edit] Hilliest Olympic too... [/edit]

It's no big deal, just reset your expectations: You are not going to be able to fly through it. But all the same, even as somebody who tends to avoid hilly races, I like it. It's early in the season so I'm OK with a slow time. Hell, I tell myself that it was all the hills (and not my lack of fitness) and so I have a convenient excuse. Meanwhile I get in some great training that makes all the other races I do later in the year seem easy by comparison.

Still bring a disc if you can, though. And a good climbing gear

I did it last year and it's definitely a tough course. I really enjoyed the ride though, much better than a flat course. I had just under 4100ft of elevation gain on the bike. Here's my file from the race, my advice is to push it on the climbs and recover a bit when you descend. https://www.strava.com/activities/1021600661

That and maybe a compact chainring if you won’t be pushing big watts. I’ll be using an an 11/26, but should bike under 2:30.

I did Quassy three years ago, but was nursing an Achilles injury, so only swam and biked. It’s the 2nd hilliest half I’ve done behind Muskoka, which is around 4500 ft.
