Going to Vegas (mtb trails ?)
Does anybody have any good routes that they know fairly specifically in/around Vegas? I've browsed trailforks and Strava and have familiarized myself with names/areas for the most part, but am interested in some 2.5-4hr rides if anybody has suggestions. Would be for technically competent riders.

Thanks in advance for any recos

Can't help with specific routes-- but Bootleg Canyon is pretty close.

Cottonwood Valley, out by Red Rock: https://www.mtbproject.com/...-valley-trail-system. Surprisingly awesome. Ike's Peak Loop and adjoining trails south-ish of 160 are really fun, as are the trails closer to Red Rock -- both of those areas are nice. I can't give you more specifics on the trails because it's been a long time (before Strava, lol), but there are some gpx files on the Mtb Project website. If you're lucky, you'll come across a herd of wild horses. Such a spectacular sight!

I'm not sure how advanced you are but this trail is only for serious shredders...

My favorite here in Las Vegas is out in the Cottonwood Valley Trail System. Drive to Blue Diamond, park at Mcghies Bike Outpost and grab a trail map from them (or message me and I can email you a scanned copy). The Blue Diamond Loop is the most typical ride from there, but you can branch to other trails. Three mile smile via Badger Pass is my favorite. You will be able to get as much distance/time as you want exploring the spider web of trails. Enjoy!

The other fantastic choice is Bootleg Canyon about 30 minutes drive from town in Boulder, NV.

Bootleg is more of a bike park than a trail, with 20+ trails ranging from easy ones you could take your kids on, to hard-core enduro race courses. I've been there a few times. It is where the Interbike MTB demo was held for years ( I think no longer ). It's a couple hundred feet of vertical, you spin up some dirt trails and pick Green, Blue, Red, Black rides back down. IMBA has ranked it as one of the 50 Epic Rides. There is a bike shop near the bottom if you want to rent or stock up on tires..

" I take my gear out of my car and put my bike together. Tourists and locals are watching from sidewalk cafes. Non-racers. The emptiness of of their lives shocks me. "

Just wanted to circle back and thank you for the recommendation (and the previous poster).

Did a bunch of trails out there but stayed away from the full on downhill runs (we stayed at a below 9 on a difficulty scale) with bigger travel rental bikes. Pretty fun system!
