Lol what happened?
Well, as stated in the above posts, everyone knows this is a Hongfu or similar frame. I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing, it just is what it is. A lot of what you are paying them for is the nice paint jobs they put on them.
So I go up to him, and:
Me: How long does it take to get replacement parts, like if I crash and destroy the handlebars?
Him: Oh, a few days.
Me: Oh, you stock a bunch of extras?
Him: No! I manufacture them!
Me: (looking surprised) Aren't these frames and bars all imported from Asia?
Him: No!
Then he proceeds to turn one of the bikes upside down, and shows me the 'Made in Canada' sticker on the bottom.....lol.
That was the end of the conversation.
Oh, and just to be crystal clear, before I get myself temporarily banned again for taking a shot at a company.... :) I happen to think the frames are in fact really nice, and I really was interested. Simple fact is I didn't appreciate being blatantly lied to by the owner.
Some quotes from their website (
https://www.squadcycles-en.com) - some of which are merely misleading - like people may confuse "assembled" with "made in". Some which are clearly false.
The Hornett frame is our latest innovation in the world of triathlon. We focus our design base on 3 mains characteristics: AERODYNAMIC, RIGIDITY & PERFORMANCE. The Stealthy profile begins with the front brake incorporated in the fork making the front slick. The Hornett simply looks fast even standing still.
we assemble a bike that is entirely made-to-measure for you, and only you.
All of our bikes are assembled by mechanics in Montreal who are professional, meticulous and absolutely passionate about what they do.
