Would be interesting to see how Dan's (Premier) wax lube compares.

agreed. The fact that it's wet, but dries into something much more like wax makes it appealing (from ease of use vs. waxing in a crockpot and cleanliness vs. say squirt) so long as it's fast.

Durability and low friction don't necessarily need to be one in the same. I can imagine a really thick grease providing good durability but horribly high wattage losses.

It is nice that someone is covering this issue though. I can see the MTB or CX crowd caring about it.

The original Friction Facts data that contained durability data confirmed this.. some of the most durable lubes they had tested were heavy oils with additives, but those were also some of the highest friction lubes tested. The other interesting aspect of this was how some of the faster lubes like showed marked increases in friction over even just a few hours creating a situation where some of the fastest chain setups at the beginning of an IM would be middle to back of the pack by the end of one..

Kudos to the ZFC guys for bringing a novel methodology to this type of testing.. it will be interesting to see how things shake out as the data set grows and technologies advance..

I have tried quite a few: molten wax, squirt, pro link, rock and roll, finish line and 5 others.

muc-off products absolutely rule when you look at overall performance/ speed of maintenance/ noise and how clean it is.

I can clean my chain and make the cassette shine in 3 minutes every day any day, add 1 min to lube it. Also muc-ff lubes are one of the quietest lubes out there. I try to get them on sale so price is not an issue.

People that never tried full muc-off system will complain about price etc...
FF hate muc-off and were talking about their bad testing with constant load instead of proper changing load similar as during pedal stroke...

If I can clean and re-lube my bike in 4 min I'm happy. Try to clean squirt...

Thanks for jumping in here, Josh. How well does NFS shed dirt and grit in a mixed surface/gravel application?

Carl,
We first learned of NFS from the US Pro CX mechanics at some of the teams we were working with some years ago.. then through us it migrated to the European CX scene where it has been used with great success and been used by a couple of teams on the podium at Cape Epic as well as in World Cup mountain bike racing... It handles dirt, dust and muck exceptionally well and it's not uncommon to finish a muddy CX ride and find the chain looking remarkably clean.. people post photos of this on Instagram with some frequency if you want to search it.. The key is getting the chain wiped off appropriately after lubing, NFS is a wet lube, but it's real advantage seems to be the way with which it wicks into he chain and stays there.. so having extra lube on the outside of the chain doesn't serve any purpose...with a sufficient wipe down after lubricating the chain, it will shed mud and grime really well while remaining very free running and quiet.. even after 24 hours of rain riding, it runs quiet and smooth!

The inventor of NFS, Josh Simonds, is a chemical engineer who was after a lube that could handle a rainy P-B-P and spent years working on the stuff... we work with him because he's awesome and the stuff is simply amazing. It's also the best tapping fluid I've ever seen!

Mainly we are just happy to see the product and Josh get the respect he deserves.. our customers for this product are incredibly dedicated to it and it's nice to have some data for why that is... as we've said from the beginning, it was the only drip lube to be in the top 10% for both speed and durability, and is only beaten out by hot-melt waxes. So for those of us who don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, spare crock-pot and and extra hour for chain maintenance, our testing and that of others has shown this to be the next best option.

Great info, thanks. Have a couple upcoming gravel races that pose drivetrain challenges. Will give this a shot.

For application tips to a clean, dry chain, make sure you read this first (it may take more than 12 drops on first application):
