Yes/No - in the white box you will find a "stick on" and a clear plastic template that shows where to place it on your chain stay near the BB. There is also what looks like a foam pad to stick on first if the frame is a long distance away from the crank arm. Usually not necessary.

Yeah, I know its there...but do you really 'need' it? There is a video at pioneer about it...Im gonna take a look...but it falls under the heading of their headset...hmm.

To turn on the left arm crank you must take the battery out (quarter) and then put it back in. When you put it back in a yellow light will show on the arm. With the stick on piece attached - after you turn the arm 4-5 times the power meter signals good and changes to a green light.

Without it I don't know if it will or will not turn on.

Truth be told....Ive been riding without the magnet for last few months and seems to work. Just wondering why it was needed and for what.

I had issues with my left only Pioneer pm. I spoke with a customer service rep trying to figure out the problem and the magnet came up. He indicated that the magnet was only necessary for very low cadence situations and it was ruled out as a cause for my issues. I was using a garmin gsc sensor at the time . I have since removed the gsc and have not had any issues with the Pioneer in regards to cadence. Granted, I train mostly on a trainer and when I do ride it is usually pancake flat.

Seems like you inferred that you are not using the magnet then...did you replace the garmin mag with the pioneer magnet?

I am not using a magnet at this time and all seems ok. I’ve been using it in this manner for months and no reports of Los Angeles falling into the Pacific.

If you're using it with an ANT+ mode (ie with a Garmin, etc.) you don't need the magnet. When they first came out you had to use magnets but they've since updated the firmware so you don't have to. I've been using both dual and single side with my Garmin for a two seasons now without magnets.

If you want the advanced pedalling metrics on the Pioneer computer then yes you'd need the magnets.
