Are we choosing a chief executive, or a pope?

She was a 22yo woman who got off on the power-trip of trying to get close to POTUS and blowing him.
History tells us Clinton is probably least-likely prez in history who'd be able to resist that temptation.
I don't deny he was a harasser/opportunistic perv -- but the Lewinsky falls outside that.

You do realize, blowjob-gate gave rise (pun?) to the moral majority, 'party of family values', 'values voters', et al
Which takes us today -- a Repub POTUS who pays off pornstars, but still has the evangelical vote. Go figure.

The Moral Majority appeared in 1979 and it was founded by the late Jerry Falwell along with the 700 Club's Pat Robertson and one of the guys that writes the "Left Behind" books, Tim LaHaye. I think it was dissolved in the late 1980s. All those other labels the GOP latched onto well before Bill began diddling interns in the Oval Office. ;-)

I think Reagan was the first one to go hunting for so-called "values voters," although Jimmah "I Have Lusted in My Heart" Carter may have made a play for them in '76.

I'd like to think I'd -- feel incredibly sleazy about it afterwards.

The fact that you have teenage daughters has NOTHING to do with Clinton's performance as president.
Lewinsky has delay-onset PTSD?
The kids at that Florida school will have PTSD. All Monica has is a permanent stain (pun) on her reputation.

I've done plenty of stupid things when I was younger. My mistakes -- no one else's!

We're choosing the Chief Executive (for pope, Monica was wrong gender and too old-sorry couldn't resist).

She was a 22yo woman who got off on the power-trip of trying to get close to POTUS and blowing him.

Completely agree. But I would think the president would be smart enough to avoid a 22 year-old intern. An intern with such poor judgement that she saved the dress and told her friend Linda Tripp about it. I totally understand him getting tempted by a very enthusiastic 22 year-old offering to blow him. I would think he would be smart enough to ask himself, "Hmm, what could go wrong here?"

History tells us Clinton is probably least-likely prez in history who'd be able to resist that temptation.

Disagree. Kennedy? Can't be the only pres to fall to that temptation. But today (and 23 years ago) way too easy to get caught.

I don't deny he was a harasser/opportunistic perv -- but the Lewinsky falls outside that.

Falls outside of what? I agree with your harasser/opportunistic perv label. And Monica isn't innocent. She knew what she was doing and she was an adult. I don't know if she was infatuated with him or thought this might be a good way to launch her career. Who cares what she thought? She was 22. But there is a huge power imbalance between them and Clinton shouldn't have taken advantage of that.

You do realize, blowjob-gate gave rise (pun?) to the moral majority, 'party of family values', 'values voters', et al

No. Moral majority was started in 1979 by Falwell and gone by the late 1980s, before Clinton.

Which takes us today -- a Repub POTUS who pays off pornstars, but still has the evangelical vote. Go figure.

The POTUS is not a Republican. He just ran on the Republican ticket. He gets the evangelical vote but doesn't give a shit what they stand for.

i'm guessing he considered 'what could go wrong here' when he was gov in AR. then, when nothing ever went wrong, enough, he figured nothing at that point in time could/would happen. look how much further he'd climbed the power ladder. and for the most part he was right. he was loved after the scandal broke, loved when left office, and has been loved until the weinstein event. that's a hell of a run for getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar. among other things...in other places.

I get that. I would think though the President would be smart enough to know that there are strings attached when you're the president and the intern is 22.

The fact that you have teenage daughters has NOTHING to do with Clinton's performance as president.

I agree. It's a shame that all the good things he did will be of less note than Monica. Here we are 23 years later still talking about it.

Lewinsky has delay-onset PTSD?

That's bullshit. Soldiers get PTSD. But I can empathize with a 22 year-old who makes a mistake and becomes a pariah and an international joke for the rest of her life. For a blowjob.

The kids at that Florida school will have PTSD. All Monica has is a permanent stain (pun) on her reputation.

And I've done my share as well. As have all of us. And I try to own them all. But there are two people at fault in this story. A 22 year-old employee who offered to blow her boss, which was wrong. And a 49 year-old boss who accepted it. Which was also wrong. And in my opinion, the greater wrong.

I agree that's probably what happened. Same thinking on Weinstein's part. I work in an industry predominantly with women. The older women, those in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, have shared some of their stories of what they put up with when they were younger. Well, they're not putting up with it any longer.
