I get it - they were stupid and got caught, so they deserve the penalty. However, is there a school where recruits DON’T get laid on their visit? I suspect this goes on (maybe to a lesser degree) at virtually every Power 5 school.

But the other schools don't pay for professionals to do it with the recruits. They just get a bunch of sad, daddy issues teenagers to do it for free....

Full disclosure here, a UK fan living in Louisville. I don't hate UofL, I want them to succeed particularly because the Yum Center is struggling financially because of wonky math by the insiders who have made out like bandits on getting that built and all the other corruption that has gone on at UofL and its Foundation. Some of these people need to be in prison. The saving grace of the YUM Center was UofL games, and with that program in tatters, the debt service is going to fall on the taxpayers of Louisville and Kentucky.

Yes, the allegations were salacious. But what was the reason for stripping (pun intended) the wins and the Championship? Ineligible players, right? Then why did Duke skate and keep their National Title and all those wins when Corey Maggette was clearly ineligible (admitting taking money from an AAU coach) and Lance Thomas's eligibility (https://www.usatoday.com/...-violations/2124611/) was in question after plopping down $30,000 in cash towards the purchase of $100,000 in jewlery while he was a senior at Duke. I guess its because no one cooperated or talked to the NCAA.

While that may be true. It does nothing to suggest Louisville shouldn't get hammered.

UNC, Miami (this one still baffles me), Duke, etc. skating only means those schools should have been punished. It doesn't mean Louisville shouldn't. Or that when the inevitable happens again with Calipari, that UK shouldn't.

As a Louisville fan I have no issue with the punishment if you are going to treat other cheating the same way. Duke gets a pass for what you already said and you can add in Chris Duhon's mother and Carlos Boozer's father getting 100k jobs with Duke boosters and nothing happens to them. UNC players take classes that required little to zero class work and those classes got the accreditation of the university put on probation, but somehow those players weren't ineligible. Kansas won a championship with a player that had his high school grades changed to stay eligible in high school but somehow he wasn't ruled ineligible. The NCAA is a joke.

I hate Michigan as much as anybody and probably more than most but if anyone is running a clean program, it's Beilein. He finds a lot of middling recruits and turns them into draft picks.

I don’t think Duke does it any worse than anyone else but I don’t think they’re necessarily cleaner than the other big names either. Someone earlier in this thread posted two example of Duke players that should have been ruled ineligible but weren’t.

We know from the FBI investigation that kids were being offered at least $100K to commit to certain schools. Do you really think a kid is going to turn down $100k from Louisville or Miami just so they can play at Duke or Kentucky for free for one year? And magically Duke is able to land the top recruiting class in the country year after year without being dirty? Probably just a coincidence that Duke’s recruiting picked up significantly after Jeff Capel returned. The same Jeff Capel that was fired at Oklahoma after some of his players got paid?

They’re all dirty. Just impressive that somehow Saint K had been able to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes when it comes to Duke.

yes. i guess i'm not as cynical as you. playing at duke is probably worth 50 times that much, 500 times that much, to a player of that caliber, if you look at what playing at duke may well mean over his career.

further, i would be surprise if gonzaga did this, and it made it to the title game last year and is as likely to make it to the final 4 this year as anyone, with most of last year's team gone.

it's very hard to keep these things secret. you may be right. but i hope i'm right. and no, i don't think gonzaga players on recruiting visits get taken straight to the strip club from the airport.

Playing at Duke does nothing more for a top recruit than any other top school. If school Louisville Kentucky and Duke are all recruiting the same top player do you really think he is going to make more money in the NBA by going to Duke? How?

Duke has cheated over and over again and the NCAA has done nothing about it. If you think that Duke is clean then you aren't following college basketball closely enough. Duke is dirtier than most of the schools.

Agree with you about Gonzaga; probably not going to strip clubs. And I think Mark Few is one of the best coaches in the game. But historically they haven’t exactly gone after the one-and-doners (I know they had one last year) so they don’t have to offer what the Dukes and Kentucky’s of the world are offering, either.
