Birzman has a torque wrench that works great, comes with all the bits, and it’s own carry case. Definitely recommend!

For torquing small, carbon parts, I have a small wrench that does 2-10NM. I also have a 5 NM handle wrench for aluminum bars, seatposts, etc.

For heavy duty items like pedals, cranks, BBs, etc., using "feel" works well enough for me.

Even though this is an old post. I searched the forums instead of repeating the process...
Going with the CDI Torqcontrol for my QR6 seat post - 8nm.

My bike's fate is in your hands. No pressure. ;)

I've had success knocking 5-10% off the recommended torque with integrated seatposts/seatmasts. Just to be safe and not crack anything. Always make sure threads are cleaned then greased before assembly, and use carbon paste on mating surfaces.

I do agree that the 'no torque wrench' people are oversimplifying it in certain situations.

Sure, many/most of the bike parts don't need exact torque and you can 'do it by hand'.

But some parts, particularly carbon stems + carbon handlebar combos, really, really should be carefully installed with a torque wrench. It is simply wayyy too easy to either crunch down on that carbon with permanent damage, or undertorque it and result in a catastrophic slippage of the handlebars when you're putting weight on them in a critical moment.

Can some folks do this reliably by hand? Sure, I'm sure even I could do it right by hand 90% of the time without a torque wrench. But if you expect me to say that a 10% error rate is ok with either equipment breakage or a really dangerous handlebar slippage, I'd say that's an absolute no-go.

I've been surprised at both how little AND how hard I have to turn on torque wrenches to get the expected settings - just goes to show that my subjective feel isn't anywhere as good as I thought.

I will admit that certain parts, particularly my bike seatpost, has needed more torque than recommended, so just because you have a torque wrench+carbon paste doesn't mean everything will be magically fine. You still have to test it out in practice.
