Frodo Kona Helmet
Does anyone actually know what helmet Frodeno wore in Kona this year? Was it actually an Oakley helmet? Or something else with Oakley logos. It did look to me like it had the Oakley prism lenses built in. I wonder if it was just a custom one off for the champ or whether they will make it available to everyone? The Oakley promotional stuff only has the stubby helmet. Ive never been a big fan of the the non-tail aero helmets.

Just curious. Anyone have any insight?

Jim@ERO chimed in a while ago saying the stubby Aro7 essentially outperformed the long-tailed "Frodeno-special" helmet on virtually every rider tested, and they're probably not going to release it as a result.

Oh wow, guess i missed that one. Did Jim also comment as to if the Aro7 was outperforming the Giro on most athletes?

Last I was told, the long tail version of the Aro 7 will not be sold publicly. Not many were made, and when you look at them up close you can tell they're not close to production ready. Jan requested a longer tail, so they made some.

I'm sure if there were enough demand, they'd make it, but I've tested the long tail against the short, or standard, Aro 7, a few times and the long tail has been a bit slower.

The standard Aro 7 has been testing on par with the Aerohead (vented) and the P09, so right there with the best of them.

Spoke with Oakley about this. This is a prototype and they will not be releasing it. They have updated it since then as well.

At the Giro d'Italia opening ITT in Jerusalem, Tony Martin rode with the long-tailed Aro 7. Previously this season he raced with the short-tailed version. There's obviously something to it, both Jan and Tony are too meticulous to want a long-tailed version "just 'cause".

As you said though, it didn't look "production-ready". The tail looked flimsy and open at the bottom.
