Hey TG, I use the same Minoura cage flipped upside down. You can provide support to the joint using zip ties, this will prevent it from breaking.

Candice, I talked with a few engineers working on aerodynamics of bikes and bike design at a major bike company and I was discussing something they came up with that has a similar purpose but was never released for public consumption. We talked a bit about the position of the Aero Pouch 300 being a little low and they suggested mounting it a bit higher up to be more effective. I actually was able to achieve this with the following Minoura mount and bracket flipped upside down. I had dremeled the seat to get it to fit. But it clearly wasn't designed to be used upside as the joint failed and fell off. My question is does anyone else make a bracket to get this a little higher up?

Any chance you could take a picture of your setup? Thanks for the reply :)

Hi Thomas,

Without seeing your individual position I can't really say much on the comment about the bag being a little low. Depending on your back position, saddle position, how you sit on the saddle - all those factors will play in to where the bag should be situated in order to achieve maximum aero benefits.

As far as recommending a bracket that mounts the bag higher up - again I would need to see your bike & saddle make/model in order to see if XLAB has anything that can achieve what you are looking for. Happy to assist - just need some more information :)

This is my current setup. I have another Minoura on order from Amazon given another STer recommended above that you can use zip ties to try and secure. That might be what I do but that this is a little bit of a tank.

Sorry about that. Let's try that again.

@harshc & @SummitAK - we recommend that the Aero Pouch 300 only be mounted on metal-based carriers due to the extra weight baring down on the carriers, so unfortunately the Tacx & Speedfil mounts won't work.

Yeah I actually tried that one, the rail is too long and puts the bottle a little too far away from the seat. I want something that I can get tighter to the butt.

Ah yeah the bag will be facing straight down with that setup.

If you are able to consider a carrier that mounts onto your saddle rails that would be best. For your saddle I'd recommend the Delta 400.

That is only a picture of my current setup with the cutout of the saddle. I'll try to see if i have an old picture of what I had setup with the Aeropouch but with the Minoura facing up the aeropouch is actually perfectly straight and in parallel with the ground.

Oh ok - that is always good to be parallel to the ground as a start point. Then we would take your body position on your bike see where the turbulent air pocket will be, and then fill in the space with the rear system.

Can anyone tell me if the Aeor Pouch could be mounted to a bottle cage that is simply zip tied to the saddle rails....no x-lab mounting bracket with screws?

The weight of a flat kit might be too much for that which is why XLAB requires the metal Delta arms to attach too.

I went for the beefiest zip-ties that would fit...rated for 180lbs of tensile load. If I were to give it a try is there any way to hold the pouch secure to the cage without the screws that mount the cage to a bracket?

Bumping this thread. Anyone tested the XLAB Aero Pouch 300 in the wind tunnel or ERO?

XLAB CFD analysis purports a 4.5W savings over no rear carrier and a 1W savings over a Delta 400 alone. I would love to see if anyone can back this up or at what they were able to calculate.

I've tested it on many riders, including myself. As with a rear bottle cage, it depends. It was neutral for me, faster for some.

Thanks. Neutral or better is good enough for me to run it without second guessing decision.
