Ran and cycled less than I wanted but on the bright side had a really relaxing weekend with good food and wine and cocktails. As a result the scales were on the high side this morning and my good intentions have been severely tested thanks to my neighbour who handed over a bag full of chocolate muffins as a thank you for helping her out yesterday.

This week: bike x 4, run x 5 (one done), swim x 2, eat less cake.

How was everyone else's week?

I'm going to post some photos from a this-week (today) "event." This was not a race, just a swim I wanted to do (Somes Sound - google "Mount Desert Island" and it's the body of water in the middle of the island). Only natural fjord on the eastern seaboard. It is about 4.2 miles (that is the as-the-crow-flies distance) and it is the most fun swim I've ever done. Last time (3 years ago) I went about 3 mi. This time I wanted to get out of the mouth of the Sound into open ocean, so we found a spot I could "land" and do that. I have that all over good warm endorphin feeling :-)

Last week I...
- Swam once (800 yards, lake)
- Rode 3x (43 mi)
- Ran 6x (54.6 mi)
- Took one day completely off
- Went to two demolition derbies at the fair :D

Goals for this week:
- At least 1 day off from running (1 done, today, hahaha)
- Ride 4x with one of them a speed workout
- Open water swim 2x while it is still summer.

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine

Nice pictures!

Me?

Well, my knee is hurting more. I had a pre-op appointment on Friday and had a freak out and ended up crying my truck for a couple hours. I think I'm over that and now on to surgery in two days (Wednesday).

Last week's goals:
4 x swim: FAIL with 2.5-ish. Pool was unavailable Tues due to a rental they never told anyone about, and Saturday was super short due to time.
3 x bike: win with 4
5 x run: win with 6
4 x core/strength: win

Ran a full 6 days in a row, and the injury is hanging in there. It's not perfect, but I don't think it's getting any worse.

This week's goals:
4 x swim
3 x bike
5 x run
4 x core/strength

Best of luck with the surgery ironclm - hope it all goes smoothly!

tc -- great pics!
Cathy - :-( hang in there. get some help for post-surgery if you can. someone to check in on you daily.

last week's plan:
- run 3x FAIL only ran twice - R hip was really tight after all that climbing.
- ride 4x DONE
- inline once (no dryland) FAIL
- hike once FAIL
- play basketball DONE

It kinda fell apart last week, busy with all sorts of stuff going on (can you say "overcommitted"?). This week is the final week of my master black belt and I'm super stressed. That on top of being offered a job from the company with whom I'm doing some consulting... hmmm... and skating is just around the corner! My mind is going a million miles a minute right now - I just have to get through this week. Then I can relax.

This week:
- run 3x
- ride 2x
- finish MBB and graduate dammit
- fly to Ontario for vacation with family :-)
- ENJOY some time off

RE-grouping week.
I swam 2x, ran some, biked some.

Saturday I ran a huge local 10 mi race - first time. It has these famous "hills" in the middle. Right between mile 5 and 6. They are talked about like they are these scary race-wrecking behemoths. My work group had an amputee group walking the 5k. Since the 10 started at 8am, and the 5k walk at 10:10, I decided to do both.
I was solo for the 10miler. I got to the start and saw they had pace groups! Well, heck. I figured I'd hang with one of them so I didn't go out too hard and blow up on these hills everyone keeps moaning about. I started out, and decided to hang with the 8:30 pace group. I tooled along feeling REALLY good and was enjoying the cool morning. We got to the mile 5 marker and I figured I'd no longer worry about the pace group and just do what I felt. I started to pull away from them on these "hills". The hills were a joke. I guess this area is pretty flat and whatnot, because these hills were pretty much nothing. I got through, and then looked for the mile 6 marker to know I was truly done with them. When I passed mile 6, I thought "gee, that was IT!?!?!???". I laughed to myself. I picked up the pace gradually more and more and was definitely pushing it near the end. I passed a lot of folks in the race.
Oh, and FIRST EVER NEGATIVE SPLIT! I never do that.
I had so much fun out there and realized how good my fitness is right now that I'm pretty sure I'm going to take my friend's invite and do the Philly marathon.
I'll make a certain decision after labor day weekend, I'm signed up for a 30k in my home town that I've never run before either.

Then walking the 5k was super fun too. When I got home I decided to go for a bike ride I had been having such a good time.

Thanks all. I head in tomorrow at 9:00 AM. My dad arrives Saturday to help out. I'll likely be in the hospital until Friday some time.

Full day 2 in the hospital and I'm probably not going home today. Hopefully tomorrow. Which is fine because my dad does not arrive until tomorrow at noon so I'd be going home to just me and I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

The doctor said the surgery went really well though it was really really needed. The first 12 hours pass the surgery I felt great. But then the nerve block wore off and I had to start doing some minor physical therapy and walking down the hall. Oh man - painful. I told the surgeon that it felt like he stabbed my quad with a knife. He said, "Well, essentially I did!" So I guess I will have a lot of moving areas of pain.

A lot of work ahead but there will definitely be a return to the bike and to the pool.

Thank you for the update, I've been thinking about you... glad to hear you emerged only scathed where you were supposed to be... :-) and that extra night is not always a bad thing.

Hang tough.
