I have describe the differences between the US & Canadian (socialist) system as this...

In Canada, there are sick people standing in line waiting to get help. While in the US, there are no lines because the people are either too sick or too poor to afford the wait.

To quote from memory (may be slightly off):

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights--life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." U.S. Declaration of Independence, signed July 4, 1776.

No--Americans are not the only ones with those three rights. It says right in there "all men" meaning the entire human race.

Having a government mandated health insurance plan is a loss of liberty. If I go to school, work hard, get a good job so I can afford a good health plan, I get punished because my plan will be downgraded so all others can be uplifted. Even if I can afford to pay my own way to get extra services, that will be illegal. That is what the plan Hilary Clinton designed would have done, and that is why about 70% of Americans, when they learned of its' details, rejected it. Social Security--the government mandated retirement program, is a good example of this. If all Americans had invested--in the stock market, bond market, or even just put the money in the bank--the same amount as was confiscated from them in FICA, they (and we collectively)--think of all that available capital for investment--would be far better off.

And yes, one can be poor and uninsured, and still get health care. It happens all the time. What hospitals do is write off the bad debt and make up for it by charging more to those who do pay. Sort of a hidden health insurance plan. When I was given a medical discharge from the USMC, my wife was pregnant. Her continued natal care was not allowed in a military treatment facility, and insurance would not cover it because it was a preexisting condition. Besides, I had no money for insurance. We paid the hospital and doctor sometimes as little as $5 a week towards our bill until we could pay it off. But, we paid it as we viewed it as our obligation. They doctors/hospital were glad to do it.

Many of the 43 million uninsured are also uninsured at their own choice. They are usually young, relatively healthy, single people starting out in life and do not really need health insurance. If something catastrophic happens to them it is likely to be a car wreck where they can get their auto insurance to cover it.

I get a kick out those who rant about those poor souls who do not have health care. Yes, there are those few that slip in between the cracks and are unable to buy a minimal major medical policy. I need to ask these questions: how many of those who "can not afford health care ; cable TV, a cell phone, more telephone service than they need, can stay stylish in clothes, go out to dinner, have money to drink, basically could cut out wants and buy a basic health care policy. Yes, I do know what an 80/20 co-pay/deductable policy cost...under $100 per month.

We all have to make financial decisions. It is easier to bitch and let someone else pick up the tab than it is to do something about it yourself.

That was beautiful. You need to write sound bites for the American Republican and Democrat parties. You can make up statements devoid of facts and common sense but make it flow off the tounge.

America needs you! We must keep facts out of conversations!!!

Where is this sub $100 policy of which you speak? I had a brief fling with the insurance industry, and the cheap health policies my boss would write started at $150+. But said policy did not cover any pre-existing conditions, or anything that even hinted of being a pre-existing condition. That's provided the pre-existing condition was minor- have anything they considered to be a major condition (seeing a phychiatrist pretty much anytime in your life, heart disease, insulin resistance, any sort of autoimmune condition,...) they wouldn't cover you at all, and send you over to the state high risk insurance pool. Trust me, you don't want to have to be in the high risk pool. No one can truly afford to be swimming there for long.

Those policies also wouldn't cover anything pregnancy related, and the 80/20 coverage only started after the consumer paid something like the first $1500 of bills in a year.

customer j ... you crack me up! I personally try not to take myself too serious - life's waaay to short.

As for the "facts", I prefer to leave that to those like yourself... as for common sense and open-mindedness, well... hmmm.... uh, ...how 'bout those cowboys?
