Maybe I just don’t understand the alternative in this situation, similarly to Trump saying he trusts Kim.
I don’t think anyone in the US trusts Kim any further than they can throw him. But you can’t go on tv right after the meeting and say. I don’t trust the little bastard. I see the salute as the same thing, although the regime is horrible to their citizens, you don’t want to start off the meeting being disrespectful to that country.
I get this could be a bunch of Hooey and Kim is just playing Trump. But with the .000001 percent chance this isn’t a play by Kim, you want the best chance of the negotiations working out.
But my negotiation expertise is limited to buying a couple houses and cars, not peace treaties so maybe I’m completely off base.
