I don't think there's a tri-club there, but Nashville has a large and active club. It's only about an hour from Clarksville-- www.gnac.org .

There are plenty of races within a reasonable drive of Clarksville. The first one of the year is Memphis in May oly. There's a few sprints in northern Alabama/southern middle Tennessee, a Tri-America oly in Louisville, oly's in Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga and a 1/2 in Knoxville.

I've never ridden around there, but I would suspect the riding would be fantastic 15 minutes out of town. Nice scenic, rolling terrain and quite rural in the countryside.

We moved to Clarkesville last January (Army also). We only lived there for a couple of months before deployment, but I met a nice group of triathletes there that did other races together (Gulf Coast Triathlon, Ironman Florida, Muncie Endurathon). They also mentioned the Machtenn triathlon in Tullahoma @ 1.5 hours from Clarkesville (late season) and the Atomic Man (Nashville??) ... Not sure on details.

You could probably get in touch with them at the Y in town where some of them swim.

There is the Hammer Duathlon in early April and the Tri-deltathon (a very short sprint) on April 25th of '04 in Knoxville. The Tri-deltathon is on the UT campus and it's a 400 meter swim, 6 mile bike, and 3 mile run. It's fun to go all out for the short distances. The Atomic Man is a 1/2 in Oak Ridge, which borders up next to Knoxville. The Atomic Man is only in it's second year.

When I lived in the area a couple years back, the University of Tennessee at Martin ran a sprint tri with a pool swim.

Not sure if it's still around.

I live in Nashville and work in Clarksville Tennessee. I have finally decided to try and do some triathlons. I put together a list of some of them I may go to. I don't expect to be an awesome triathlete right away, but I am running pretty good after a 10 year break from physical activity and my swimming should come back pretty quick. I'm not sure about the bike part, but I just got a used bike which seems to fit okay. If you have any questions about the area just ask.

Thanks everybody.

Glad to see I'll have some races to look forward to if not deployed. Atomic man sounds cool.

Another question especially for Stepchild and Leonard:

Any idea what the schools in clarksville are like? which ones are good, bad and/or need to be avoided at all cost.

thanks again

Jim
