Brett Sutton's D.O.V.E race in Leysin, Switzerland with Nicola Spirig
Quote | Reply
Hi all, I wanted to share a note that the Doc posted about his upcoming event with Nicola in Switzerland on June 7-8. Check it out...

"Olympic Champion Nicola Spirig had the final meeting with the Leysin tourist office. We have the go ahead for the Nicola Spirig Tri Festival race on the 7th and 8th of June 2014.

Yes it's short notice. However we thought it best to get it under way now.

It will mean so much for the dove project.
It will help launch our vision in Europe.
We are showing others it doesn't have to be big.

We are aiming for 200 adults, 50 teams and 50 juniors in the kids race. It will be about following and pitting ones self on the course that has produced 12 individual world champions and three Olympic medal winners with the conclusion of Nicola Spirigs fantastic win in London in 2012.

We need support. Those who can attend, we will ride down the mountain in group formation lead by Nicola just how the squad has done it for 14 years. We will swim in the lake we all used to practice open water swimming, then we ride to 'Wellington hill', it's called this because Chrissie owned this hill. Her ability to charge up it is legendary, not just between the girls but the boys that decided to take her on up it.

There are 12 switch backs. Each world champion will be honoured by the village with their names being placed on each turn. The run is two laps of "the spirit " run loop. Nicola is or was called the spirit when training in Leysin, and thus she owned this 2 1/2 km loop with a killer 400m hill in it. No one was safe from embarrassment when they ran with her here. Again all athletes worked their arse off on this.

So its 500m swim, 20k bike and 5k run. We will have a web site up on March 1 for all entries.

Thank you to the Leysin tourist office for honouring the effort of all the champions that lived in the village.

To answer some questions about the race:
There will be children's races on Saturday 15th. There will be a lecture and question and answer that afternoon with Nicola Spirig.

Now this is where dove is different.
Q) How much prize money?
A) We don't know, it depends on entries.
Get used to it!

We are putting $5000 minimum on our first race so every body knows it will pay 1st to 10th with $1200 for 1st, yet you can run 200th and still get some money.

Q) There is not a prize pool for pro why?
A) There is not a pro organisation dove can talk to.
I was serious about pros, they are not.

Q) How do we know if there is going to be more money?
A) Simple if 250 turn up, then it becomes $15,000 in the giveaway pool. 250 entries is all we are looking for.
If crazy happens and we get 100 from England, 200 from Swiss, 50 from Germany, 100 from France and 50 more from surrounding areas then people $30,000 will be handed out to age groupers that finish.
You go into the draw, of which there will be 2 draws. One for dove members and one for those that aren't.
There was a reason people should have joined dove.

So people its up to you. If 500 enter then 30 people will be going home with real cash, with the two winners taking home $5000.

Dove is about 'the people decide'. I want to show you with the 'Taste of Cozumel' and Nicola Spirig festival what triathlon can really do for all its participants.

You will then see that if we do one the same size as a wtc, the minimum amount to age groupers is not going to be a medal or a t-shirt to wipe your bike with, but $300,000. By then the pros might get organised and if so they will be racing for the same amount, not being told that in a $5 million dollar budget race they should be happy to race for $12,500 for men and for women. That is an insult. We are going to address this, and we start by these two little races.

You need to make these races successful not me.

If you support it, then it will start to turn the tide of corporate take over in our sport and put it back in the hands where it belongs - the participants at all levels.

Cheers
The doc"
