Cold weather triathlon

I raced the pineman short course triathlon in Ohio this morning. .6 swim, 28 bike, 6.55 run. It felt COLD. Tried to pull a long sleeve T-shirt on over my singlet. Fooled with it for about 15 seconds and gave up. It just wouldn't go on over my wet body. Big mistake. I've never been so cold as during that bike ride. Had a hard time running thru transition, couldn't feel my feet. Couldn't get my fingers to squeeze the lace locks.

There was a full ironman distance race held in conjunction with this race. I can't imagine being out in the cold that long. Temps were in the low 50's at the start and warmed to the mid 60's by noon.

What do you guys ware when it's cold, that can go on quickly in transition, and are there any risks, besides the obvious, of getting so cold?
