Races too close?
I'm thinking about doing Ironman California (half IM, April 3rd) and Californiaman (Full IM, May 22nd). Are these races too close to each other. I've only done two races to date, 2 sprints. My times were 1:01:30 (400m, 9mile, 3 mile) and 1:09:10 (1k, 15k, 5k). Im doing an olympic distance in a week, another sprint in October, then a half IM in early November. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I dont think the races are too close at all. I suppose it depends on how quickly you recover - but for me, that is nearly a perfect space between races. I wouldn't expect peak performance for the 1/2. But if you take it easy - and consider it a practice run for the full, you should be fine.

One possible drawback: Racing the 1/2 could throw your training schedule off a bit. Meaning you might miss a long ride or run. But if the days following the 1/2 coincide with your scheduled recovery week you should be good to go.

FEEP26 - thanks for asking this question, I've been contemplating the same question about the same races?! Small world I suppose. Let me know if you're in the Bay Area, maybe we can train together this winter/spring.

I'd agree--ask yourself does it screw up your long ride/long run schedule? I'm entered in CaliMan and will skip Half Cal and probably instead do World's Toughest. Better timing IMO and a lot more like the CaliMan course.
