The swim has been cancelled due to bad water quality for BOTH amateurs and pros. There will be a 5K run instead whose location and route is yet to be determined (most likely from transition to Central Park and back). Seems that the latest bateria count has spiked way beyond the safety limit due to the heavy rains. This is a matter of safety, not a matter of swimming abilities. ANYONE can and most likely will get sick if they swim. The race is now a duathlon (5K-40K-10K) for BOTH amateurs and pros. No news yet on refunds, prize money, exact wave times, or exact 5K run course. Maybe someday people will finally realize that the Hudson River is NOT meant to be swam in.
Right now, there are no plans to re-change things, as the water condition will most likely only get worse with the rain expected later today and through out tomorrow. This is per my conversation with the race director at 10:30am NYT.
