LFT observations: From shallow to steep

WHile watching the Lifetime fitness mega bucks tri, I noticed (because it was draft free) most were riding steep angles. Was I wrong? I assume most of the ITU circuit racers ride shallow for pack racing. I also assume that beacuse it was draft-free, and a short 17 miles, then a steep/aero position puts out more power while saving legs for the run? IMHO, 4 miles is not enough to pull away from anyone. The bike was where time needed to be taken. Just my observations.

Discuss amongs youreselves. BTW, how much is 1/4 million after taxes?
