Papal Conclave Begins
After the first vote black smoke billowed from the Sistine Chapel indicating no consensus had been reached on who will be the next Pope.

We'll continue to see this until a consensus is reached and white smoke along with bells will ring when a new Pope is elected.

This could take some time but no one knows...the Cardinals are sequestered and held to silence while voting takes place.

Or Tyler...

White if he's clean

Black if he's dirty

First votes of day end with no pope chosen

The 115 cardinals taking part in the conclave to elect Pope John Paul II's successor took two votes this morning but elected no new pope. Ballots from those votes were burned and produced black smoke, indicating that no choice had been made. Two more votes are scheduled later today. When a new pope is chosen, smoke from the Vatican chimney will be white.
