I'm jealous as hell I can't join the womens at the camp. Sounds like a great time. Unfortunately the dates don't match with my racing/training schedule. Keep us all posted on the fun and games.

As of now, with all the people from around the world who read Slowtwitch, our camp this year will be made up entirely of womens from Kansas!

We will definitely post pics of the weekend that you can find on this thread.

Sent Monty the Costco request list today. Can't wait!

I'm here!! I forgot how much I love it here. Peaceful and quiet and some hard riding.

Bjorn is here too, training for Wildflower. Six dogs to love and Monty came with his wife's little dog....Brittney, who is curled up on my lap no matter the computer. She's a little Taco Bell dog and so cute.

Riding today with slowman and Sally and friend arrive this afternoon.

Super fabulous weather today! Sunny and in the 70s and not too much wind. I had a 4 hour ride and it was so great. Monty fixed salmon for everyone but me and I had steak. There was also brownie bites, wine, mixed veggies, red potatoes and salad. YUM!

I think I'll be hitting the bed early tonight.

Sight-seeing yesterday for those of us more used to terra firma. Fantastic swimming outside in perfect conditions, plus biking long (90 miles) tomorrow. Yesterday's trail run was fun too.

Planning on visiting Jackson Lake, where I last had a way too close encounter with a bear 2 years ago.

All you womens are really missing something special by not coming. Perfect training conditions are hard to come by (in Kansas, it's 43 degrees and raining right now). Instead, I'm working on my tan and getting stronger.

Wish you were here...

Now we're watching Mark Montgomery be interviewed on ABC's Wide World of Sports during the inaugural Kona 'Endurance Triathlon' (IronMan Triathlon) from 1981. Extremely rare footage available only here!

Monty looks like soooo young...and the hair...and the bike, with the pack big enough to hold a construction worker's lunch!

Tennis player Arthur Ashe is the cycling authority!!!

You ought to be here...maybe next year.

Another womens camp in the books, low on quanity, but very high on quality!! And the ladies got some of the best spring weather we have to offer here, between 70 and 85 for the week, with light to no wind. Sally and Rachel did a 126 mile ride one day, a little test for the Leadman coming up for Sally. Cathy did her monthly mileage in 5 days, and Rachel set a new 50+ record up the mountain, also 2nd best woman overall at 1;08+. No real suprise to me, as she was a very fast hawaii pro finisher back in the day, and has had her body on ice since then. Plenty of sunburn, tired legs and arms, my famous bar-b-q, and little chocolate treats I left around. Everyone is on very good eating habits, but good to see those treats disappear. Because there was so much training, we never did get to the margaritas, but several bottles of good red and some cheap beer did vanish pretty easily.

We will call this a building year, as I know many of you are caught up in the work/financial mess that a lot of folks find themselves in. And I know a lot of you that have come before, are in new family situations. You all have a year to start putting all your purse change in a jar, so no excuses next year!!!

Thanks again Monty! It was a great training block for me. The only loss was hopefully a few pounds and one pair of Rudy Project sunnies lost to slowman's pickup truck tailgate.

Can't wait to come back.

Riding through Lake Los Angeles on the 125 mile sojurn

resting in the shade of the joshua tree

Hiking over a stream in the Devil's Punch Bowl

Our awesome new friend, Spike, the quiet dog

Saying goodbye to Coso and Austin

Thank you Monty for your gracious hospitality and the outstanding food (I should have photographed those artisan salads, but I was too busy eating them :-)

Cathy, it wouldn't be Xantusia and training camp without you there; glad you made the time to come to 'Kansas Camp'

Dan, thank you for your help, guidance during camp, and for being a friend to the Womens of Slowtwitch.

Monty, thank you for hosting again this year, I was sorry to miss it but I'm burnt on travel and couldn't swing it. Next year! I'm looking forward to it already. I heard from Cathy that you are doing well and looking forward to the future and I'm so excited for you! Can't wait to see you next year and glad all is well.

Many thanks for providing the womens training camp. What a magnificent place to train and the wealth of knowledge givien at the camp was greatly appreciated. The food, sunsets, clear view of the stars, and the old videos were all fantastic. I hope to return for more good times.
Thanks again,
Rochelle

To the womens,
please set the date for next year's camp early, so I can block it out before I setup my race schedule. I sooooo want to do this.

Probably not able to until the end of the year since it will depend on Dan's (slowman) camp schedule, but April was PERFECT weather.

We have to set up our next years FIST schedule first, then we can pick a date for the womens camp. But this is a great time of year here, and for most people travelling, they are coming from some real crap weather. Like I said, this was a build year, and one to jump start the womens again, next year it margaritas and mountain climbing!!!

I'm not coming back until you promise the margaritas will be flowing! :)

Really missed coming this year. Too crazy a schedule right now to even consider it, but I'll definitely try for next year. I missed those bike rides!! Such a great place for all kinds of training, but in particular the riding is fantastic.

You missed some OUTSTANDING bike riding and we missed you too! Not enough people to drink those pitchers...

It's only a guess, but with the bike fit camps and the weather, it may be at about the same weekend next year. Instead of bemoaning tax day (~April 15), think of Womens' Training Camp as your reward ;-)
