Dan,

Thanks for the report on Brad Kearns Toughest 1/2 race and also your encouragement to get out and do a first time event. Their are definately starting to be too many sheep in this sport. This is how it used to be back in good old days. New race. New course. New location. Just figuring it all out was part of the fun and adventure. Great to hear that Brad put on a great event - and supplied Gordo with his first win!! Now that's EPIC

Figures Kearn's would come up with something like this. I recall bumping into him in a bar in Maui the week after Ironman Hawaii one year back in the late 80's. He had said that he had been to Haleakela. Said it was, "awesome". I asked him how the ride down was knowing that, that was the thing to do on Maui - take the bus up and then coast the 10,000 feet back down from ther crator summit on rented Mountain Bike's. He says to me deadpan, that it was the ride up on his own bike that was the cool part !! This several days after racing at IMH!

Point of correction: WT 1/2 was Gordo's second win. He won Ultraman in Nov. 2002.

I should've done the half -- I would have been the only woman in my age group.

Of course, it would have taken me ten hours, by which point the finish line had probably been taken down.
