the guy is all over google. he writes a book a minute. IMO he should have stuck to linguistics. Maybe some use as a social gadfly a la nader and perot, but defintitely a bit OTT and a throwback to the days when it was cool to be an american marxist. I mean, he makes Paul Krugman look like a moderate. But I admit I haven't studied his political stuff too much other than reading the headlines - his tone is a bit to shrill for me. Obviously, you need to draw your own conclusions and judge him on the merits, but keep in mind before you dive in that this guy has a HUGE agenda and strong (almost pathological) political biases. thanks. it was just curious cause i have a paper due about his talk on thursday. I've gotten huge varying opinions of him and I'm not sure what to say yet myself.

his work in linguistics is seminal, and will stand the test of time.

Not so sure about his politics, but with Chomsky you always know what you are going to get. I do find it funny that all the critics of the West in general and the US in particular feel free to take potshots from within the confines of the system they are beneficiaries of, which is great. But they never acknowledge that as a positive.
