Cycling in Richmond, CA?

How are the roads for cycling in Richmond CA? I will be there for a week in June for work and am trying to decide if it is worthwhile to drag my bike with me for some training rides.

Thanks! Ed

Richmond, BC, Canada? Or are we talking about California?

If it's Canada, then definitely take the bike along. There are heaps of rides in Richmond - many of the cyclists/triathletes in the Vancouver area go to Richmond to ride. It's dead flat, pretty, and there are lots of roads with basically no cars.

If it's California, well then I have no idea. Good luck with that!

I moved away a few years back but from what I remember, Richmond itself is not really bike friendly ( more of an industrial wasteland) but the roads in the hills above berkeley and down the other side are great. There's also great riding over in Marin but you would have to drive there. Check out the roads through wildcat canyon park and tilden park and all along the skyline of the east bay hills. There are great trail runs to be had above the berkley campus and through the parks in the hills. The three bears loop listed on this page was one of my favorite rides. To get there and back from berkeley take wildcat canyon road which adds two climbs of I think 1000 feet and about 8% grade. If you don't take your bike at least go running either in the east bay hills or up Mt. Tam in Marin.
