Old thread, but thought I would add my story.

I had a bucket handle tear in 1991 and had 90% of my medial meniscus removed from my right knee. In 1994 I tore my medial meniscus in my left knee and had 30% removed. In 1999 I went skiing for the first time in 8 years and yes, completely destroyed my left knee and had complete knee reconstruction.

In 2003 I decided to get back into serious training and completed 8 full Ironman races and a full schedule of 1/2's and shorter races. In 2015 I had emergency back surgery for a ruptured disc at L4L5. Completed another full IM in 2017. One month later I had triple hernia surgery. Completed another full IM in 2019. Dumb, unlucky or lucky that I can still do this - I don't know. I am still training and racing and don't see that ending any time soon.
