Walking/Athletic Shoes for Non-runner ???
Of all things, Lil'Audrey has indicated that she would like to start "walking".

I have never mentioned "sport" to her at all - and she allows me my excesses, puts up with my diet and passion for Italian bicycles, so I think this is wonderful.

Anyway, I need shoe suggestions. If I know Lil'Audrey, this could very well be the start of a small training thing which might lead into a bit of jogging; one never knows. She has normal gait, no real weight probs and I would like to purchase the right shoes for Christmas. A bit of polypro for the stocking and decent socks I've got covered - and then we'll see.

What say ya'll?

new balance has several walking-specific shoes, and of course multiple width options. might be a good place for such a thoughtful santa to start looking :) any model with the prefix "WW" is a women's walking shoe, though i'll freely admit i've never been able to decode their numbers..

See...out here in Bugtussle we don't know these kinds of things. On the other hand, my track stand has gone to hell cuz, well, I don't have to.

*lol*

ok, from having waded through their women's walkers, it appears that the higher the model #, the more motion control stuff it has (600/700-series = stability, 800-series = motion control, 1200 must be like a walking cast!). so if your lovely lady has no gait issues, the 500 series would probably be a decent place to look.

511 seems to be ~10oz - http://www.newbalancetoronto.ca/...il.asp?style=WW511BK

559 comes in under 9oz - http://www.newbalancetoronto.ca/...il.asp?style=WW559WB

576 around 11oz - http://www.newbalancetoronto.ca/...il.asp?style=WW576BK

just don't get the velcro ones unless she likes feeling like she's 4 years old again ;)

cheers!

Get running shoes. Walking shoes are leathery awfulness.

Thanks ya'll...I've ordered 559s (mesh).

Lil'Audrey has now mentioned that she'd like to fart (oops, ride) around on my MTB; that's great, but when she asks about swim goggles next year I'll start to worry.
