I was originally hoping to do it in 2010 (and watch some world cup action while there) but it just doesn't seem practical now... although 2010 is a down year ;-)

I'm pretty much done, well sorta for the yr tho I do have a decent race coming up this weekend

AFC 1/2

Then I have picked out a couple of 5ks and maybe a 10k for good measure, since Brian is pushing me that way. :-)

Good luck!

After a day or so of feeling sorry for myself b/c my new medication changes the heart rythym and I don't know what that will mean for running ultras and doing solo backcountry trips, I decided to say 'eff it' to being sorry for myself and confront my challenges. So, for next year, I have signed up to the Ride to Conquer Cancer (committed to raising $2500) and will be riding 200 miles over 2 days next June (which okay, no big deal, but remember I haven't ridden a bike outside and off the trainer for 17 years, though the boyfriend is attaching the brakes to my bike tomorrow). So I still don't know what will happen with the Sinister 7, but at least it's something to keep myself motivated (and heck, I won't be able to help but become a better cyclist)!

Keep your HRM on at all times during training for awhile just so you can check whatsup, ko? Thnx for the GL this upcoming weekend. I wasn't going to race and now I have deiceded to HTFU and just fricking do the damn thing, regardless of times, etc.

Good Luck w/your races. Y'know if we all were sidelined by our meds, minds, docs, we would totally be a tragic bunch. Have fun and train safe.

That's so obvious and so smart! My bf will be shocked to find me finally wearing my HRM with regularity (he is always bugging me, and I counter with 'perceived effort!'). Yeah, I decided that a day or so of feeling sorry for myself is about as long as I can stand.

Good luck this weekend! Enjoy it regardless of times :)

Future races on my calendar include:

IMWI -- Sept 13
No Skirts Adventure Race -- Oct 10
North Face Endurance Challenge 50K -- Oct 24
Tecumseh Trail Marathon -- Dec 5
Goofy Challenge + (5K Friday, Half on Sat, and Full Mary on Sun) -- Jan 8-10

I'll also likely pick up a couple O meets and some more for ARs in the fall/winter. And another 50 miler in early spring. Thinking McNaughton again in April.

A huge group from the Chicago Ultra Runners (CHUGs) are heading out for Javelina. Good luck on that! I can't mentally wrap my mind around a 100 miler. Can't wait for my next 50M and even a 100K but the thought of 100M is still way scary.

I'm doing the 100k. Secretly thinking about doing the full 100 miles but my coach threatened to shoot me with a bb gun if I try to do any additional laps :-)

Instigator, I'm doing your 1st and 5th race (Yes, SO aiming for all 3, to get my Goofy award!). Still debating the 3rd (NFEC) b/c I have NYC so soon after it, so I'm looking at just going for the Hudson Mohawk River Marathon on October 11th to prep for NYC... Anyone done that one?

My boyfriend and I are actually going to be out in there from the 5th - 15th, so we get a bit of a vacation before I-day, since I have serious antsy issues with tapering. We're probably going to do a bit of course recon a few days before the big weekend, to avoid the hordes. When are you going out?

I will head to Madison on Thursday mid-morning so check in to the race. Will be there through Monday. I am in Chicago, so me and the course are great friends (plus I did this race last year). Have my last ride on the course this weekend which will be proceeded by the 2.4 mile IM course swim. The WI masters is nice enough to organize an open water swim race on the course this weekend :)

Track Masters National Championships - in a week in Colorado Springs!

clm

Well, I'm in Colorado Springs (love it here!!) and have had two races and two personal bests and two improvements on placing from last year. There are some wicked fast women here! It's been fun and a good learning experience. One more race tomorrow and maybe a team event on Sunday.

Plus, I got to meet a STer! He raced last night and we got to chat for awhile. A great week so far.

RE: Sinister 7

I cannot say enough good things about the guys who put this race on. I've raced many of their FullMooninJune 36-hr races, always wonderful, imaginative courses, safety above all, and just all-around good people.
They were really hurting for volunteers at their last 36-hr race but put on a phenomenal event anyways. We (the racers) didn't even know it was an issue until after the race, and never would have guessed.

I'm sure your hesitance about Sinister7 isn't about the race quality itself, but consider volunteering for one of their races to learn more about the races. You'll have a really great time, and learn a lot.

And if you can, race it!! :)

Hi, I'm new to this forum:

Next up is IMAZ 11/22/09.

I really need to do a HIM before then but nothing has been working out for me this year (injuries, work, family, etc). So it is loooking like possibly SOMA HIM on 10/25/09 as a training day :-)

My hesitancy about the Sinister 7 isn't about the race so much as it is about me! :D Or rather, me completing it!

I've heard GREAT things about the guys who put it on....so that is really good to hear that is your experience as well. I know they were really good about allowing me to defer as a result of my injury (when we thought it was fractured, and I was waiting for the bone scan - it's not, but it's taking as flipping long to heal, stupid neuroma). I'm really excited about starting training for it (in a week) for next year after my time off for the injury, though I'm starting slow as it's not quite fully healed yet.....have an appointment with the specialist to get shots too.

I'm thinking I'm too far away to volunteer for one of their events, but if I suddenly come into some money I will be out for their training weekend, in May I think it is. I was so upset to miss this year.
