missing period-- steroids?
Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone here can help me out a little....

Back in November, I had a bad reaction to a bee sting and was on prednisone for 8 days. My December period was a week late, which my gyn said was probably going to happen because of the steroids messing with my hormones, etc. but that I should be back on a normal cycle the next month. I'm now on day 41 and no sign of a period. Three pregnancy tests all came out negative. I'm 28, have never had a late period in my life (except for the Dec one), and haven't had any weight, sleep, or diet changes. The only thing that might be a little different is that I'm doing the 100 run challenge, so I'm running every day. However, my mileage isn't really increasing by that much, it's just spread out over more time. So.... I'm confused as to what it could be.....?

Thanks in advance!

I would go back to my ob-gyn and see about getting an ultrasound on my ovaries if I was you. My ob-gyn was looking at my ovaries recently and said, "Oh, you have lots of little cysts on your ovaries, you might be poly cystic." PCOS causes infertility and is treated by taking the pill. It increases your chances for various cancers do I would follow up on whatever is bothering your cycle. My ob-gyn was going to prescribe a dose of progesterone to get my cycle going, but I ended up getting my period.

I used to be very thin and had irregular periods and overlooked it for years. I'm regretting that now that I'm trying to get pregnant. Take care and hopefully you will get some good advice!

I had the same issues.. I've been seeing an endocrinologist who said my activity level could be screwing up my period definitely, but upon further testing found out it was due to PCOS. Apologies for slightly hijacking the thread - If you're diagnosed with PCOS, please work with an endocrinologist that is familiar with it as well (there's a webpage that lists specialists in every state..). I'm on an insulin regulator now, which gets everything back in check (insulin, testosterone, pituitary gland..) to stop the cysts... so its not always as simple as just "taking the pill"... I was on the pill for a few years, I didn't always get a period every month, and when I stopped taking the pill, I completely stopped having periods. It's not really important to me because I'm not a "kids person".. but reading some of the PCOS message boards, I feel for these ladies... and, once they get on metformin, they are able to conceive so much better.

just my .02...

Another vote for checking this out further. I forgot about this til now, but when I was younger , somewhere like age 31, I had to takea course of prednisone for an ear infection. I was running about 40 mpw, maybe more, and I never missed any periods.

Linz- thanks for sharing that with me. I do have an appt with an endocrinologist next month so it will be interesting to see if I do get that diagnosis. It would make me angry since I've had a few ultrasounds and no one ever noticed anything until now. Several months ago I had abdominal pain and thought I had a cyst so I went in and they did an ultrasound and said I was fine. I'm questioning that now. Anyway, I think it's important to share these stories since we need to take control of our own health and it helps to know what other people have gone through.
