Masters of War
Did anyone see the Pearl Jam set on Letterman. Very poignant after the "debate" I think.

edit: "We learn from history that we learn nothing from history." - name that quote!!!

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

Sorry, dude, I think that stuff is crap and not poignant at all. I hate Pearl Jam's music and politics. Typical Liberal Hate Bush BS. What's this guy complaining about? He's filthy rich, probably got some very hot chick and he's F*&#in' miserable. That's what livin' in Seattle does to people.

I'm under 100k per year in income, pay shit-loads of taxes for government shit I don't need/use and I'm happy as hell. My kids are (reasonably) safe and well (publicly)educated, my wife and I have good jobs, I also own my own part-time business, two houses (one rental), two cars, two cats, one dog and the sun shines for five straight months in the Spring-Summer-Fall in my neck of California. If it takes 87 billion dollars to keep terrorism in other parts of the world and my life the way it is, you bet your ass I'll pay my taxes gladly for that. W '04.

There is a war because we have been attacked. We now have the choice (A) fighting back, (B) sitting around and seeing which of our civilians are randomly slaughtered by the Islamic fundamentalists that destroyed the World Trade Center or (C) all converting to a reactionary and fascist strain of Islam in which none of inalienable rights listed in the Declaration of Independence exist.

My choice is A. I guess yours is B because you sure would not be allowed to listen to Pearl Jamm under choice C.

I love Pearl Jam, but I also believe they're monumentally naive. I've been in war and been a warfighter. It's terrible, and destructive and sometimes necessary, as I believe this one to be.

Face it gentlemen....this generation is facing the test of our time. What we do know, much as Charles Martel at Agincourt, will determine the fate of nations.

Everybody knows that almost no Muslim is a terrorist. But I think that most realists know that almost every terrorist act lately has been carried out by Muslims. We need to be realistic about this.

War is exactly like a bowel movement:

-It is best kept low key and done in private.

-No one really wants to do it, but it is a neccesity of the human condition. Everybody would probably just as soon not have to contend with it.

-If you are too into doing it that indicates a problem.

-It smells bad.

-There is a lot of paperwork involved.

I dunno... Has there ever been "a good war"? Do people come back from a large and thorough war feeling slightly smug and completely satisfied? Does having a war put a smile on your face? Hmmm - maybe I do agree with you after all...

I've never been to war (thank Ja) but there's just something satisfying about a really good shit....

Thank you! In know only 133 or so people read this thread, but I was starting to get worried.

I saw the show, and thought that their cover was really good.

Has there ever been "a good war"?

According to the Simpson the only good wars were: American Revolution, WWII, and the Star Wars Trilogy.
