Tom D. editorial re. helmets

Wow. TOm, you should send this to the UCI, and/or all the professional cyclists that are pressing the UCI to not rule the Helmet as compulsory.

They claim that they are big enough to make decisions regarding their own health, your editorial clearly explains why such a decision doesn't only include themselves, it has effects on many other people, including and firstly their family, but also official race doctors, teammates, spectators, ... Not mentioning the fact that they have a lot of influence on young (and less young) riders throughout the world.

Don't understand why some people won't wear helmets. Our roadie group has a nickname for them - organ donors.

I raced both automobiles and go-carts years ago and nobody would consider doing so without a helmet. IMO it's no different in a bicycle race.

Just a thought-if a bike shop could be construed as being liable just for listing a ride if someone is injured, why aren't the sponsors of motorcycle "poker runs" worried about the same thing? Here in Iowa there is no motorcycle helmet law, and the Harley riders have huge poker runs all the time. About .01% of those guys wear helmets. Too many greedy people and greedy money-grubbing lawyers can ruin just about anything.
