I'm bummed to see comments removed when the discussion seemed very civil to me....I read the thread yesterday morning and all was fine.....what happened?
I came home from a run in the afternoon and it had gotten kind of ugly. One of the posters had erased all of their posts, but I could tell by how others reacted to them that they were not friendly in nature whatsoever.

Unfortunately, it did get ugly. I don't think anyone is trying to "censor" anyone, but keep things civil. It was not civil and thus removed - just like other threads have been in the past.

I'm new here, and each forum has its own culture/style. With that in mind, I feel I may have exacerbated the problem, and for that I am sorry. I'd truly hoped to discuss the subject with other women as I think the issues and many talking points surrounding Palin have a deep resonance for women throughout the country, both politically and in the workplace. How we choose to approach the questions I saw being asked I think will have deep repercussions for decades to come. However, these issues also tend to run near and dear to our hearts, and it is hard sometimes to discuss such things without involving some deep emotional responses. I forgot that and continued when I should have shut up.

In fact, I think I should shut up now. I just suffer from diarrhea of the keyboard.

The Womens forum isn't even allowed to discuss a woman being nominated for the 2nd highest position in our government?

One step forward ten steps back!!!

Why not just post the approved viewpoints for the womens forum and there will be no need for discussion!

That is SUCH BS. Dreaming-big and TimberDick were the ones writing all the offensive stuff.

Art posted ONE thing and it was pretty harmless. Also you guys are the ones calling Palin Yukon Barbie and Yukon Jane. That isn't offensive?

It is easy to blame someone when there is no evidence to support it.

I will let him know he is not welcome over here. Last post from me as well.

I never realized the power of my ideas had such impact. I think I made only one post.

The only reason I came here was the LR had a thread on the subject started by undertrained directing people here.

I guess I fail the physical to post here. My bad.

i find it insulting that women cannot discuss things of deep meaning here for fear of being offensive. we are not babies, and we are not softies. i thought in this forum all things were fair game and this was a place where women could rally and be open with contemporary meaningful topics.

i'm against censorship, and i'm against having someone determine what i can and cannot discuss. this is not the 1950's where it was taboo for women to discuss politics. this is 2008-2009, and we have a woman running for VP; need we remind "the moderators" that this is a grand time for women in politics? how tragic we are forbiden to discuss current events in what should be a progressive forum to support women, not shush them.

it is a shame that the old culture of "women shouldn't discuss politics" is still in play right here on Slowtwitch. that is a tragic tragic development, and i'm ashamed of that.

trigone, i for one am regretful that i didn't get to read your response. i appreciate what you have to say, and know you are typing with one hand. that is just too bad all the way around. also, i would have enjoyed reading what everyone had to say, but now i will not get the honor of reading your words, and for that i feel a loss that i didn't get to chose for myself, and think about what you had to say, be it offensive or not.

additionally, i'd like to say that i'm embarrassed, as a woman, to have someone decide for me what i can and cannot read or handle because it was political in nature. i thought we had moved beyond these ancient ideals, that woman cannot handle topics of politics or other deep discussions.

must we limit ourselves to discussions of shoes, hair highlights and other simple topics?

sorry, but i find this "women shouldn't discuss politics" hurtful, and absolutely backwards. it is a slap in the face.

women have worked very hard to be able to modernize, speak their minds and be a part of the political system. apparently, this is not appreciated in the women's forum on ST. it is clear to me that rather than champion women and push them forward, this forum aims to keep women down and to quiet them.

i will no longer be participating.

Excellent post. I am a man that frequents this section of the forum and I have been provided excellent advice on many things. I also appreciate that I have been able to contribute as well.

During my time here I have seen so many strong (men that aren't shy about posting in the womens' section and great women willing to help the men that frequent here), wonderful and beautiful people. It puzzles me to think that the strength in this section of the forum cannot handle a thread like the one deleted...people could always skip reading it.

I am very disappointed w/ the moderators actions. I think a more appropriate response would have been to ban the individuals whose posts were inappropriate.

Erica, thanks for deleting the political discussions. I would really love to see this as a triathlon forum for women instead of all the other random stuff that ends up here. I spend less time here than the regular forum because of all the non-triathlon posts.
