Power Pedals???
Saw them at Performancebike.com. Supposedly a new "secret weapon" for improving time trial performance. Not that I am looking to buy, but does anybody know anything about these? Just curious.

PS They seem to function by not allowing the pedal to rotate backwards, only forwards.

They have actually beeen around a long time. People who can adapt to them seem to love them. Most people I think have a lot of trouble adapting to them. I have no personal experience but I would assume they would have the most benefit when cadence is low, like when climbing, because of how they make you pedal - the complete opposite of "ankling".

I have several avid Power Pedal advocates who are also satisfied PC customers so i assume the benefit is additive.

I was given a pair of these pedals a LOOOOONG time ago by a man named Vigo who had worked with the Norwegian national team (supposedly). He wanted me to test them. Even then, they were boat anchors, so I never used them. I did give them to a trackie, however, who thought they might be of use in a pursuit start.

What they evidently do is increase the length of the lever arm on the upstroke, essentially taking the tibial muscles out of powering the upstroke (instead of pulling from the ball of the foot, you're pulling from the heel with a stiff lever to the BB spindle). I didn't see any theoretical benefit in my riding at the time.
