I don't have issues with people who don't have the same opinion. I just don't understand with all the education available and all the other things that really could kill you, why there are people who still feel a good snake is and dead snake, mentality. I nearly died of a brown recluse bite last year. I'm certainly not going to move out of my new house, because of the brown recluse spider. And there is no doubt they are in my house with the scorpions.

I agree with you about education being the first tool for snake and spider phobias. And I have seen some other great posts in this thread suggesting the same thing. Some of them I am more likely to follow than others, simply because of the supporting tone in which the opinion is conveyed. Respect for the snakes/spiders/etc, but also respect for each other.

Just curious? How big is this pool anyway? You were in the middle of a 1000 yard set? So, we are not taking about a little back yard pool? Some kind of lap pool?

You seemed to agree with Kylie's post. Does that mean you are going to respect snakes and spiders? And get some help for your problem? i will, if you will. Many people feel i have problems with people. At least, the forum people feel i have problems with people.

it is a large pool, in my backyard. it is 25 yards long with 2 lap lanes and one half is even wider for water volleyball. so when i am swimming I can not see the other end of the lap lane. I swim alone, no one is out there so, if a snake ( harmless or not) was in the pool with me, i could not see it. That just freaked me out. Plus, since there is a retention pond about 20 yards from our back yard, i am sure the snake came over from there. He was probably NOT a "cottonmouth" or poisonous, but I knew that I would not be able to get in that pool and swim without worry if he was still 2 feet from me in the flower bed.
Maybe I over reacted, and I should have had my husband take it FAR away. ( just throwing it 20 yards out into the pond would not have eased my fears even though I am sure there are more snakes in there than just this one.) We have had the pool for 3 years and this is the first big snake sighting we have had.

I've tried to stay out of this one because I can get quite heated when it comes to animal "rights" and such, but have you thought about getting some kind of fencing around your pool to keep the animals out? Might help with all the animals that find themselves in there (I think you mentioned frogs and ducks too). No animal should really be in chlorinated water (snake, frog, whatever and supposing your water is chlorinated of course), because that can be detrimental to their health.

I know I'm promiscuous, but in a classy way

we have a fence, the subdivision ( Homeowner's assoc) only allows those black iron fences but we put meshing down the whole fence because one of dogs is small enough to get out through the openings between the iron poles. we also have landscape timbers along the ground the whole fence as well.
and anytime a frog or turtle gets in, we get them out quickly because we know it is bad for them to swim in that water. ( the vet did say our dogs can drink it without health hazard, not sure why they can drink it and other animals can't swim in it??)
