at 54 and being natural insulation challenged - about 6'0" and 137-141 (fat season) - my cooler weather tolerances have declined.
the kickr bike and riding videos from Fulgaz eases the indoor monotony a good bit also.
I think i'm game down to low 40s if the wind isn't too crazy. i've always preferred really good shorts with leg warmers. i've never had good luck getting a good fit with bib tights. I do like the extra core warmth of bib tights though, so...
I've gravitated to 'thermal' bib shorts and I have liked the good ol Castelli nanoflex bib shorts so much I pretty much only wear those for these temps.
but - my experience is the nanoflex wears off so quickly that the shorts (though still fairly warm with the fleece interior and whatever weather proofing from the nanoflex remains) are so threadbare that my skinny rear end is much too visible to riding partners (poor folks).
is there a slowtwitcher favorite somewhat weather proof and fleece lined 'thermal' bib short that kind of fits skinny-ish old people (and maybe lasts for at least an entire season)??
