Yes. I think that was after Joe Frielā€˜s seminar. So maybe 2003 or so.

That's sad news!

Only met Kevin ounce personally - in Kona a number of years ago, at the Pier, Race Week during the Morning Swim one day. But as Dev mentioned, we were like old friends, due to a great deal of interaction and banter in the early 2000's here on the ST Forum.

Always positive. Always upbeat. Always willing to help people out. That's the KP I remember from those early days on the ST Forum.

Thanks for posting this up, Mark. I'm assuming based on what was said in the Obit that it was cancer of some kind?

Rest in peace KP!

I found out hours after he passed. I didn't post as I didn't know a lot of the facts on answers people may have-- & knew it would get around somehow. While I did post about Nina Kraft before it hit the airways, Kevin was an old friend, good guy, I wanted his family to release the info first. I used to spend many hours on the phone together & have a ton of emails back & forth between us, just talking about everything from triathlon to trips & philosophies of life. Went to dinners in California and Hawaii and chatted about everything you could talk about pretty much. RIP, one of a kind KP! They broke the mould when you were born!

Iā€™ve known KP since 1999 when a bunch of us got together on the old Ironman California chat forum which morphed to the ā€œYellow Pageā€ (since that was the color of the webpage) and a group of us have stayed friends ever since. KP was one of the nicest people you would ever meet in your whole life. I think Gordo has stated it very well.

Cathy, as one of the members of the old Ironman California page, it eventually became "The Peeps Page"--it's where we all coordinated dinner at Hawaii Ironman one year if you recall. KP, you, Betts, the list goes on. The "call names" like we have on ST, I don't recall all of them, but Phats was another...met so many cool people there. Plus we had that party at someone's house at Ironman California or the 70.3 Oceanside one year. I forget who's house it was, but they had a plane flying overhead on loudspeaker at night kinda like an audible "Amber Alert"---just seeing the crew & KP, Chaz, etc. was awesome again. Gonna miss KP...that big lugnut!

Ya, the same for me. I knew earlier, it happened a week before I posted. I had seen it on a FB page already and just wanted to give those that knew him a chance to remember him here. And a few others also got to be introduced to the person he was to many of us. All goes to the old life is short message we hear all the time, it really is, and can be...

KK! Betty and I were talking on the phone last week and we laughed through tears picturing KP and Scrote knocking back a few beers.

I see Big Dig posted here...I remember him too. I think he was at the 70.3 dinner with Chaz & I as well. I recall "Iron Scot" was it? Short Scottish guy...nice dude. I don't recall all the names but one that stood out amongst all of us was in fact, KP.

Sad news about Coach KP.... with a view from one AG below, saw him at many of the same races including several times at IMC and at workouts and on the roads around town as he methodically grew his expertise and ability, culminating in reaching his dream of qualifying for Kona and going on from there to help others do the same. Haven't seen him in a long long time but he was an unforgettable character - a great guy to talk to whether seeking his advice or just chatting.
