Adam Hansen moving to Ironman in 2021
After Lotto-Soudal didn't renew his contract, Hansen is focusing on Ironman 2021. His attention to technical details is well-known, with him custom-making his own shoes and always looking for the maximum equipment advantage. It'll be interesting to see his transition and what he does with his equipment.

His first IM effort off no real triathlon training last year was solid and his custom made bars were certainly interesting so looking forward to What he brings how he goes.

At 39, time is not on his side.

Tough age group when a guy who has done 25 grand tours finishes 8th.

He'd be doing well to outdo Wurf for number IMs in a year for a start... This post was the first I'd read about it so I enquired to someone in the know and he already has sponsors onboard so good luck to him and I am sure we will all be watching with interest.

Sadly a bit too old to have time to gain experience. Will it be a talansky kind of case once again?

There goes Wurf's bike split record :D

On a serious note, Hansen "just" needs to get his run up to scratch and he will already be able to do a respectable time for a pro.

I wouldn't label him a climber being 1.86cm and 77kg. He's more an all rounder work horse. Being a domestique he'd know all about having his nose in the wind all day.

Can't wait to find out what kind of neat solutions he will come with when free from UCI rules and sponsor obligations.

There was a really good podcast he did with the MX Endurance podcast that dropped yesterday. He's extremely detail oriented, looking to push his nutrition side (taking 120g sugar an hour!?!?!?!) and not needing sponsorships and wants the BEST products available. Making own bars and tri shoes, of course. Figures his swim will get there soon, the run will develop and plans to race a LOT of IMs and will race the run on some and not others based on the day to feel out how to run the marathon. He's taking this super seriously and expects to be good.

Also, he throws a little wet blanket on Wurf's cycling ability compared to him - pretty funny stuff and really good interview.

DFRU - Detta Family Racing Unit...the kids like it and we all get out and after it...gotta keep the fam involved!

Agree-- a very good mx endurance interview.

The guy is rightfully confident. Wurf... worked out pretty well. Talansky... a bit of a dud. It's hard to look past Adam's record string of grand tour finishes. Similarly to Cam, as a bigger rider with very big sustained power, his cycling profile sets him up very for long course racing very well.

Sounds like fast swimming is in his blood from his youth/ early tri career. And that never really leaves and should come back quickly for him. I don't see why he wouldn't be the first into T2 by a decent margin in his pro races. It's hard to argue that if he can get his run down to 3:05 in an ironman, he should be very competitive. Like a Starykowicz-type athlete.

He has age working against him. Will be fun to see.

Thanks for the heads up on the interview (I had not heard of the podcast before)

Really interesting to hear his approach. Know he is not going to suddenly light the world on fire and is interested in the learning process. Said he loves swimming which is good since he'll have to hit the pool a lot. I thought his take on how he'll only run hard in some of the Ironmans (which using the others as training and taking it as easy on his body as possible) and how it could affect the strategy of those racing against him was interesting. Will also be neat to see who he ends up with for sponsors since he is planning on being pretty picky and not just chasing a deal.

Matt
