What to do with 10 yr old carbon frame
I stripped down an old bike a few years back. Saw it in the garage today. It’s in ok shape I think but I’m torn between trying to sell it for $100 or just tossing it in the trash. I’ve only thrown away a damaged frame before never a working one. I’m not sure I can do it.

Here's the problem with carbon frames - can't be recycled. Lots more landfill to come over the next 10 years.

Sell it or give it away. It could make a great trainer bike or even a starter bike for someone.

What is it? I might know a guy that would take it.

Sounds like a good reason to do a project buildup bike

Nearly 20 years and going strong.

Edit, if it is still functional, don’t trash it. Sell it / give it away to a kid who needs it / donate it to a charity that can do something with it....

Seriously, why trash something that is still usable?

Absolutely sell it or give it away to a worthy recipient. Just the good karma alone will be worth it ...

Dedicated bike for the indoor trainer (if applicable).

I had my old (2004) bike sitting around, and this ended up being the perfect use.

Sold my aging frame to a newbie (fine riding condition). Getting a lot of use out of it. Yeah, sell/give it away.

Do a hobby build to see how cheap you can build a complete bike with used parts on eBay or from parts laying around. Then sell on eBay or craigslist. I have so may spare parts ( stems, BBs, bars, brakes, cranks) just laying around from upgrades that I bought a frame to put spare parts to use. It as easier to do this and sell a complete bike than trying to sell individual parts.

This is good advice.

Is there a local cycling project to donate to ?

I have a similar dilemma with a damaged frame.

Not sure to repair and keep, sell or just give away

Now is literally the BEST time to sell a bike, on Craigslist or whatever. I think you'll be shocked at how much people will pay you for a functional bike that isn't super expensive, because they are all pretty much sold out in the $<1000 price point in stores.

I'll bet you'll even be able to sell the frame itself, but you'll get a lot more interest if sold as a fully functional rideable bike that doesn't cost an arm or leg.

I know, right? I actually want to find a P3SL frame in my size to build up, but every local listing gets snapped up instantly because they generally go for $700 or so. I am thinking of actually selling my backup B16 frame.....

Next races on the schedule: none at the moment

Out of curiosity, what kind of brand, model and size is it? Are you also talking about a fork (maybe a headset, BB & seatpost too)? Pics?

There's always slowtwitch classifieds. I bet somebody from here will take it for c-note.

Build it up and donate it to a college triathlon club. Some of those kids would really appreciate it.
